Sally Acorn, The Heart and Leader of The Freedom Fighters of Sonic The Hedgehog
Rebel teenage princesses who fight for peace in their kingdom’s. They have a parent who is strict and hard on them (Moon and Max). This parent has also made choices that conflict with their goals.(Like when Moon chose Mina’s side over Star’s briefly and Max made decisions like wanting to kill all Robians).
They have led a group of teenage warriors (Freedom Fighters and Marcificant 7) in the fight for freedom. Both would have someone else in their family become ruler ( Eclipsa and Elias) while they focus on fighting for peace. They have a romantic relationship with a person who is not of royal or high-ranking status but is a hero with a heart of gold, who later-on gets knighted (Sonic and Marco) by a member of their family (Moon and Elias).
They have been trained in combat since childhood (Star by The Knights of Mewni and Sally by her mentor Julayla) and use powerful magical artifacts that belong to their family (The Magic Wand and The Sword of Acorns). They draw their magic from a source (The Realm of Magic and The Source of All) and have had their abilities used against their friends and family (Half of Star’s wand was used to corrupt magic by Toffee and hurt others, while Sally's roboticization meant her skills and experience were used by Eggman for evil).
Each has dealt with their people turning their backs on them and their friends (Mewmans when Star started bringing societal reform and equal right for monster kind, and some Mewmans turned against Eclipsa to join Mina. The Mobians started to fear and hate Nicole, and they allowed Nagus to usurp the throne from Elias).
One thematic contrast that I personally like, is that while both struggle with the pressures of being a princess and one day ruling over their kingdoms, Star actively does everything she can to avoid becoming Queen. While she fights for her people, she would rather be a rebel fighter than a princess, even handing over her crown to Eclipsa and looking forward to when she could be a normal teen again. Sally, while wishing she didn’t have to rule and to live free like Sonic, accepts her responsibility to her people and never tries to run from the throne.
Both would eventually lose the source of their magical powers and subsequently their magical weapon (The Realm of Magic is destroyed by The Whispering Spell and The Source of All got nuked).
Finally, both suffered from the evil of…….

"You're right I am a princess, and as far as I'm concerned, my family exists to serve it's people!"
As my name suggests, I am not only a huge Sonic fan, but also a big fan of Sally Acorn (though Blaze and Amy are my favorite female Sonic characters tbh). My uncle gave me his Sonic Comics when I was young, and so I’ve been growing up with the Archie Sonic Comics, having read them my whole life.
When it came to Star, I’ve been a fan of her show, since first watching it back in middle school, having caught up with all the fan theories and art, when the show was going on, and I still remember watching the final episode early in the morning…..funny how SVTFOE ended on the same day as Game of Thrones.
When it comes to this matchup, like all the matchups I’m responsible for (Franklin Richards vs Archie Tails for example), I created it while I was in study hall, and I was bored. I think I went from Peach, to Shuri, and Lola before finally remembering, “oh yeah Star exist”, and then I went all in on connections and fight ideas, and boom! My second favorite matchup was created.
2024 was the first time I made a blog, and that first blog was Star vs Sally, and I remade that blog later on. So that’s the history.
Debate?
So Star Butterfly, going off her last appearance, is kinda busted, with magic that can literally do anything, and going off just basic scans and knowledge of the comics, and Satam, you’d be quite confused on why I’m putting up Sally against an RPG like magical mage…well aren’t you in for a surprise…let's break this down.

Something that I feel that the community, and even respectfully Star’s own episode might often be her experience.
Star actually has a lot of experience when it comes to combat. She's was babysat and trained to fight by the royal nights ever since she was a toddler. She's even been fighting monsters since before the series started.
She's also had training in many different weapons from swords, to mace's, and even bow and arrow's.
When it comes to intelligence, Star is not the sharpest tool in the shed, having spent the entire episode having to fix a time loop due to trying to avoid a simple math problem (she may have an understanding of multiverse theory and the concept of space time).
With that said Star is still a very capable and reliable princess, even if she isn't the smartest.
Sally’s is also quite experienced. From a young age, Sally was trained by her mentor, Julayla, not just in her studies but in combat. Sally is a master artist, and is extremely adept in several forms of combat, including Judo and Kung Fu, she's very athletic and quite agile, she's also very capable with a blade, as we will see.
With her skills she is able to hold her own and best swat bots, bandits, badniks, assassins, and even Sonic and Knuckles themselves.
Furthermore, she is extremely intelligent which makes sense, considering she is the leader of what is essentially an army.
She's able to outwit many of her opponents, solve complex riddles, and hack into some of the best technology out there, including Eggman's.
Overall, while Star is an experienced fighter, and has been trained since childhood, Sally also has that same training, leads an army, and just seen a variety of more enemies than Star ever has, so I’m giving this to Sally.
There’s a lot to be said about the power these two command. Star herself scales to beings like Rhombulus who could contend with beings who could create Black Holes.
She has Marco fused two universes, and possesses the Royal Magic wand that has claims that it can destroy the universe. Furthermore, Toffee was able to corrupt all the magic in the multiverse from The Magic Realm Dimension, and he himself admitted that he was using Star's magic to do so.
Yet, Star was able to undo Toffee's corruption by dipping down. With half of the wand's power (and with that Star's magic) Toffee was able to defeat The Magical High Committee, which included Omnitraxus Prime.
Glossaryck created Omni to maintain the multiverse for The Mewmans. Not only that, once defeated, Toffee absorbed his magic and the other commissions' magic.
Speaking on Star’s multiverse, Omintraxus, The Space Time Guy, says that Star multiverse has "infinite parallel universes with infinite parallel timelines" ; we can take his word for it.
That is alot to take in, however, Sal’s surprisingly isn’t too far behind. Sally in Base Form (yes Sally has a Super Form, we’ll get to it), survived the Energy Inhibitor going off in the Zone of Silence, it stopped The Zone of Silence from expanding into Mobius and preventing the Zone from collapsing.
With her ring blades, she was able to pierce through Metal Sonic and hold him back, and then there’s The Sword of Acorns which gives her access to a Super Form of her own, The Sword of Acorns could absorb the powers of Nagus and Enerjak, two of Archie Sonic’s big bad’s, who could go toe to toe with Super Sonic.
Heck, in one timeline, Enerjak beat Super Sonic…..it also one time killed the gods of Archie Sonic, those same gods transcended to the levels of The Chaos Force, Enerjak included.
Sooooo yeah, while Star’s impressive, having access to a Sword that can beat Super Sonic, does give Sal the advantage. Though, Base on Base, Star is way more powerful.
Star has tons of spells, some that are absolutely crazy, like Easy Peasy Time Freezie, Total Annihilation Spell, The Darkest Spell, and more! Star is easily the more versatile of the two, with the amount of spells and summons she has, Star has a lot of choices to pull from.
Sally’s tools and gadgets are impressive, but compared to Star, it ultimately doesn’t matter. Even Nicole couldn't hurt Star, Star uses magic, not technology, and the power difference between the two meant that Nicole couldn’t do much to Star.
However, Sally’s magical items counter a lot of Star’s magical abilities, even in base. Power Rings could boost powers, give knowledge, healing, and resist transmutation and mind manipulation, and grant wishes.
The Wand and Power Rings can do pretty much anything the user puts their minds to, they ultimately cancel each other out. The Sword of Acorns, gives the user flight, the ability to read minds, clairvoyance, and absorb powers.
The Sword of Acorns was able to absorb the magical powers of beings far more powerful than Star. And while Nicole ultimately can’t hurt Star, she provides excellent defense, as her barriers could withstand blows from Super Forms, not only that Nicole easily trumps Star’s summons in terms of power.
However, Star does have one advantage for both The Sword of Acorns and Power Rings; The Whispering Spell. It can destroy all magic, including the magic of The Rings and Sword of Acorns. With that, Star reclaims her stat advantage and blasts Sal off the face of the Earth.
Both have a lot of abilities to throw at the other, and both have ways to defeat the others, I’ll call it a tie.
Star was able to dodge her own spells, catch up to a car, and scaling to others meant that she could get up to massively faster than light speeds, specifically this comes from the original calculation of The Total Annihilation Spell, consuming every dimension in the multiverse.
It was going off The 812 dimension that we know off in Star vs, however, since we know Star vs The Forces of Evils multiverse has infinite parallel universes with infinite parallel timelines, this would take that up from MFTL to Immeasurable. So....do with that as you will.
However, Sally is a Sonic character. And not just any type of Sonic character, an Archie Sonic character. She’s shown the ability to keep up with Metal Sonic, and even avoided and landed blows on Sonic himself.
While Sally obviously isn’t as fast as Sonic, she consistently showed feats of being able to react to people much faster than her. Like how she’s avoided blows from Sonic on two separate occasions. And once she gets The Sword of Acorns, she would scale to Super Form levels of speeds.
Sally's superior mind, greater power, overwhelming speed, equally absurd magic, makes it so that Star ultimately comes up short. She does have her advantages, she's physically stronger, does take stats in Base and her Butterfly Form when Sal isn't using The Sword of Acorns, and The Whispering Spell is a terrific advantage to have and would net her the win, if it wasn't for Sally's other advantages.
Animation Potential

God I would kill for this to be hand drawn, but if it were to happen sprites is great too! So much potential, you can start with Star’s magic vs Sally’s tech. Having Sally using, Nicole's Nanites to create countless clones, and weapons to bounce off Star’s insane magic.
Star’s summons vs Nicole would go so hard, and Nicole creating nanites weapons etc, for Sal to fight Star’s Finn Shaped Susano in the fight would be peak. And of course Butterfly Form Star vs The Sword of Acorns Sally, with all its insanity with their magic would be the chefs kiss. Moreso, the dynamic would be equally funny and emotional.
Sally having to deal with Star’s magical insanity and bubbly personality, would be funny, but also a moment where both realize their connection as princess and the burden it brings would also be a nice moment.
I'm gushing about it all and I have a hard time getting all my thoughts out in one blog/pitch, so I made a script for a potential episode to show off some of that crazy potential.

Does Star need to comeback
In my opinion this is just a matter of opinion, no one needs to come back, but a lot of the time, it just comes down to a want to come back. And sure Star had her most iconic mu, but even Steven has matchups (Invincible for example) that people like for him, as a runback. As long as an mu is solid in themes and animation potential, then I don’t care how many times they come back ....yes even Batman.
As for, I don’t like Star so that's why she shouldn’t come back, a character being likeable is subjective, despite her and her shows flaws, I still deeply like Star, she’s one of my favorite characters of all time, and her series is a childhood favorite of mine that I always enjoy revisiting, flaws and all.
Furthermore, there are certainly tons of characters who get suggested for Death Battle that I don’t particularly like or care for, but that doesn’t mean I think they shouldn’t be on the show. Because there are people out there that like that character, and that should be celebrated, Death Battle is a celebration of these characters and the joy they bring us.
Also, Sally Acorn is a relatively well known Sonic character, and there are still cries from fans for her to return to the series, even Ian Flynn has acknowledged that Sega is aware of this.
Conclusion
Thank you for listening to my Ted Talk on Star vs Sally, it's a little weird, and a little wild, but it's certainly a good time, at least in my opinion.
