Katara vs Hinata (Avatar vs Naruto)

 Katara vs Hinata Blog

"What we have once enjoyed, we can never lose. All that we love

deeply becomes part of us.”

-Helen Keller

Katara, The Waterbending Master from Team Avatar of Avatar The Last Airbender

Hinata Hyuga, Gentle Fist Master and Byakugan Princess of Naruto

Despite the circumstances that laugh gives us, as long as we move forward and overcome said challenges, we can always become great. Despite our own insecurities, we can prove what our doubters say about us wrong, and become strong in our own right. Sometimes we can do it on our own, but it’s never bad to have help, and be inspired by others.

These two master’s of their craft, know this better than others, and we're gonna settle who wins, in a Death Battle!

Hol Up…..

This blog will take into account Full Moon, and will allow abilities and increased strength Katara get’s from it, and for both we’ll only be taking canon in account, this means The ATLA cartoon and canon comics for Katara, alongside Korra. For Hinata, this means the Naruto Manga, canon databooks, and Boruto (it ain't much tho in Boruto).

Shoutout to sources:

Katara

“I will never, ever turn my back on people who need me!”

The Southern Water Tribe had seen some hard times, once a large, beautiful village was reduced, to a measly small one, after all, everything did change once the Fire Nation attacked. After enduring many brutal Fire Nation raids, the South Pole was left devastated and nearly all the surviving waterbenders had been taken away, and made prisoner’s by The Fire Nation.

By 99 AG, the Southern Water Tribe was on the brink of extinction, with its culture shattered, its main city largely abandoned, and its unique waterbending style essentially erased. There were no Water Benders remaining, all except one…Katara of The Water Tribe. At a young age, Katara and Sokka would lose their mother to a Fire Nation raid, her mother died to protect Katara, who was their village's last Water Bender. Because of this, Katara was forced to forgo her childhood in order to take up the responsibility that her mother once had.

Soon, all the men in the village, including her father, would set off for war. Katara was left alone with her older brother Sokka, and they would continue on with their lives in their village. Not knowing that on one faithful day their lives would be changed forever.

While on the hunt for fish, they would stumble upon an iceberg, and inside would be a boy. Katara would free this boy, and they would learn that his name was Aang, and that he was an airbender, The Last Airbender. She would form a bond with this young nomad, and with Aang, Katara would feel something that she hadn’t experienced in a long time…fun. The Fire Nation would return, and Katara and Sokka would learn that Aang was in fact, the Avatar, The Master Of All Four Elements.

Alongside Sokka, Katara would choose to travel alongside the Young Avatar, helping to guide him and keep him safe, as he learned to master the elements, across all four nations. They would gain new allies and friends, including an honor seeking prince. Along the way, Katara would be the glue which kept the group together, and while it could come across as motherly, Katara's kind nature would be appreciated. She would grow herself, challenging the roles of women in the North Pole by fighting a master, becoming a master water bender herself, training Aang in waterbending and saving his life, and confronting her mother’s killer, and while not choosing vengeance, she didn’t forgive him, and she never will.

While there were ups and downs, including her battle against The Puppetmaster Hama, and being forced to use BloodBending to save her friends, Katara always stayed pure and true, eventually helping Zuko defeat Azula, and alongside her friends ended the 100 year war. Katra and Aang would settle down, start a family, and help found Republic City. Katara herself made sure Blood Bending was outlawed. Aang would eventually pass, but Katara still kept moving forward, and would even begin training the next Avatar, one from her own tribe.

Hinata Hyuga

"To other people, I might not have changed at all, but I feel like I was able to change."

The Hyuga, arguably Konoha’s greatest clan, was in trouble. Their clan, known for their perfectionist, cold hearted, and detached personalities just produced a child, The Clan Heir no less, who was the opposite of that. A quiet, shy, but ultimately kind and caring young girl….Hinata Hyuga.

Growing up Hinata was ostracized from her clan due to her passive personality, not only that her cousin Neji, a member of the Branch Side of the clan (who were forced to serve The Main Branch due to the seal on their head) was stronger than her. It didn’t help that her mother died at a very young age. Eventually, Hinata would battle her little sister Hanabi in a spar, and whether it was because she was stronger or Hinata didn’t want to hurt her didn’t matter, she would lose, and not only that, lose her position as clan heir.

Her father would all but abandon her, focusing all his attention on Hanbi, ostracizing the young girl further. On one snowy day, Hinata would be bullied by four other boys, and with everything she’s been through the young girl would fall to knees in tears, as the wave of never-ending darkness in her life would consume her. However, that darkness would soon be overwhelmed with light as a young boy would come to her defense, this boy was Naruto Uzumaki.

While Naruto would lose, his smile and carefree nature would rub off on Hinata. She would continue to watch Naruto, and the way he’d meet every obstacle in life with a smile and optimism, and as they continued to grow up and grow as ninja’s, she’d adopt his Shinobi Creed, “To never go back on my word, cause that’s my Nindo, my Nindo Way”! With this creed Hinata would do things she never thought possible, like challenging her cousin Neji in a fight, and while not winning, boosting her confidence. After Neji’s own fight with Naruto, the two would mend their relationship, which was fractured when Neji’s father sacrificed himself to save Hinata as a young girl, due to a kidnapping attempt.

Hinata would grow stronger becoming a genuine equal to Neji, developing her own technique, nearly sacrificing herself to save Naruto, and being the one responsible for reigniting Naruto’s spirit during a war by reminding him of his Shinobi Creed. Unfortunately in this war, Neji would die protecting her, but she would endure. And after a few years of cluelessness, Pain stabbing, and alien kidnapping, Hinata and Naruto would settle down and start a family, Hinata would train their children in Gentle Fist, change The Hyuga for the better, and finally become a Gentle Fist Master, the best even, as she would finally defeat her sister in a fight.

While the Shinobi World fate, including her’s and her husband’s fate are uncertain currently, Hinata’s own tale of confidence being found in other’s was truly an inspiring one.

Equipment

Water Pouch

Katara Water Pouch allows her to carry and store water, for Waterbenders these pouches can serve as a source for bending when water is either scarce or unavailable.

Spirit Oasis Water

This water is imbued with spiritual energy, it has special healing properties. Katara used all of it to revive Aang.

Abilities

Katara

Water Bending

Water is the element of change, Water Bending is one of the four elemental bending arts, and allows one to manipulate and control Water of various forms.

Water Bending is mostly fluid and graceful in its fighting style, requiring the user to act in concrete with the environment. Dealing with the flow of energy, Water Benders let their defense become their offense, allowing them to turn their opponents' own forces against them.

Versatility is a Water Bender’s greatest ally.

Breath of Ice

Using her breath, Katara can freeze chains or opponents, and even stop a warship from sinking by temporarily freezing a hole in the ship's hull.

Ice Shield

Freezing water in front of her allows Katara to create a shield of Ice.

Water Whip

The Water Whip creates a lashing tendril of water to swipe at an enemy, the size, shape, and length are all determined by the user control, powerful benders like Katara, can create larger whips with great finesse.

When sharpened into a blade it can cut through metal.

Multiple Water Whips

The Water Whip, however, this one deals with more than one whip.

Razor Rings

Katara can create multiple simultaneous water rings capable of cutting.

Water Dome

From collecting the rainwater, Katara can form a dome that she can use for defense and offense.

Water Vortex

Katara creates a whirlpool-like pillar of water, rotating it and directing its movements at the same time, making it easier for Katara to dodge attacks.

The water spout's constantly shifting and coiling movements form a giant snake of water around the lower body, elevating them from the surface of the water.

Bubble

Katara can cover herself and allies in a large bubble of water, to cross large bodies of water, and maintain a supply of air for the journey.

Wave

By bending a large mass of water without moving it from its original source, Katara can create waves of nearly any size.

Wave can be used to sweep opponents away or even as a form of transport, with the bender surfing on the crest of the wave.

This same process can be used to propel waterborne crafts.

Water Cloak

Katara can cloak herself in water as armor.

Water Tentacle

With her cloak, or even on her own, Katara can bend their water as a form of armor with tentacle-like arms.

Ice Spear

This move requires freezing a stream of water into a spike and firing it at the intended target.

Ice Slide

Katara can manipulate ice as a means of short transportation for herself and/or others.

Ice Dome

This is an advanced technique that Katara demonstrated in her fight with Zuko, which she used to surround a foe in a sphere of water and freeze it, trapping their opponent inside.

Conversely, Katara can use it as a protective shield, like when she once surrounded herself in an ice dome after falling off Appa to remain afloat in a fast-flowing river and avoid injuring herself against the rocks when she went over a waterfall.

Ice Prison

Like Ice Dome, this technique can cover an opponent in a prison made of ice. By finely controlling the position of the person within. This technique can restrict the movement of an opponent's hands, rendering them powerless. However, Katara was able to move inside it just fine.

Katara utilized this move to incapacitate Azula during Sozin's Comet.

Maelstrom

In a large body of water, a waterbender can create a gigantic whirlpool. This technique was executed by Aang and Katara while fighting the serpent.

Steam Bending

Katara can manipulate steam, and also use it to manipulate fog. It can be used to freeze people or objects.

Katara has used this technique to great effect, for example, when she created a thick cloud of steam to conceal a ship from the enemy and when she surrounded herself in fog to create an eerie atmosphere while pretending to be a river spirit.

Snow Bending

Pretty simple, Katara can manipulate snow due to its status as frozen water, as seen above.

Plant Bending

Katara can redirect leaves and from the vines to protect herself and others, and can rip water from plants.

Healing

Master Water Benders like Katara, can use the soothing and restorative properties of water to heal minor injuries, or even major ones in Katara case.

As the best Water Bender in the world, Katara can heal burns, lightning strikes, guide the process of mercury poisoning, and even resurrect Aang from the dead with spirit water.

Blood Bending

Due to the Full Moon, Katara’s most deadly ability that she learned from The Puppetmaster, Hama, is revealed, the ability to Blood Bend.

Blood Bending allows advanced level waterbenders to take control of and manipulate fluids within an organism's body, allowing the bender to move the person's muscles.

This is the highest level of Water Bending, and by far its darkest, Katara absolutely hates this technique, going so far as to have it outlawed in Republic City. It’s possible that due to her status as the greatest water bender, she could pull it off regardless of the Full Moon, but that’s speculation.

However, she will use it if she's extremely pissed off, or as a last resort, usually when it means saving her friend's lives.

It’s possible that due to her status as the greatest water bender, she could pull it off regardless of the Full Moon, but that’s speculation.

Minuscule/Possible Abilities due to being a Master Water Bender:

  • Armless waterbending: Proficient waterbenders can control water without the use of limbs, relying only on the torso to generate enough movement to manipulate a medium. With this technique, waterbenders such as Ming-Hua can create water-like appendages as makeshift arms and even turn the entire body into an ice drill by generating enough momentum.

  • Body fluid manipulation: As the human body contains a high percentage of water, waterbenders can manipulate various fluids within the body, some with more difficulty than others. Using water as a catalyst to redirect energy paths within the body, meanwhile, is more widespread, Katara even managing to perform the ability instinctively after Aang accidentally burned her hands.Other bodily fluids, such as sweat or the water vapor in breath, have also been bent with ease, appearing to be limited more so by a waterbender's resourcefulness than their raw power, Katara has additionally demonstrated the ability to bend liquid trapped in a person's lungs, extracting the water Aang accidentally aspirated when the Unagi knocked him unconscious.

  • Cloud Bending or cloud manipulation: By working together, a waterbender and airbender can easily manipulate clouds, which are made of air and water, to create various shapes. In one particular instance, cloud shaping was used to provide a message to nearby villagers of an erupting volcano. It was later used by Aang and his friends to disguise their flights on Appa while moving about the Fire Nation.

  • Condensation: Not only can skilled waterbenders condense clouds into a usable source of water when they are within close range of one, but they also can condense invisible water vapor right out of the air. Although, due to the limited quantities of water present in the air, as a mere 1% at most of the earth's atmosphere is water vapor, the amount of water extracted from the air is quite minimal. Favorable environment and climatic conditions increase the amount of water one can remove from the air.

  • Water pinwheel: This move involves the user moving a large mass of water and spinning it vertically around them. This was demonstrated by Hama while blocking Katara's attacks.

  • Water slide: Dubbed by Sokka, this technique involves controlling a whirlpool-like pillar of water similar to the water spout, except instead of enveloping and levitating the waterbender who created it, the slide wraps around other people. Katara utilized this technique to catch Sokka, Satoru, and Loban and safely deposit them on the ground when they fell from General Old Iron's mask.

  • Ice blade: Waterbenders can create a sword-like blade of ice. Ming-Hua used this technique to threaten a delivery truck driver in order to smuggle her and her companions out of Republic City and again during her battle with Kya at the Northern Air Temple in an attempt to skewer the other woman.[14] Tonraq also used this in his battle with Zaheer on Laghima's Peak.

  • Ice claws: Shown by Hama, using ice claws involves the bender drawing water around their fingers and freezing it. They can also be sent forward, shooting them at an opponent. A waterbender can also use this as an advantage; being small and unnoticeable, they can hide them in their sleeves just like Mai's weapons. Additionally, this technique uses little water and thus can be performed quickly using the condensation technique.

  • Ice column: Similar to the earth column technique used by earthbenders, a waterbender can shoot a pillar of ice up from the ground to knock their opponent off their feet. Unalaq used this technique during his duel with his brother, Tonraq.

  • Ice disc: A waterbender can create a cylindrical column of ice and proceed to slice razor-sharp sections of it off and send them at an opponent. Katara used this technique against Master Pakku, employing discs that were sharp around the edges but also thin, as Master Pakku was able to break them with his wrists.

  • Ice gauntlet: Waterbenders can cover their hand with a sheathe of ice. Only a few waterbenders employ this technique, as they need to learn how to avoid frostbite while using it.

  • Ice projectiles: Waterbenders are able to rapidly shoot projectiles of ice at their opponents.

  • Quiet grip of ice: This technique allows a waterbender to use a bit of water on the ground nearby and to grab an opponent's foot in an icy hold.

  • Rings of water: Skilled waterbenders can create one, two, or three rotating rings of water, in the sky, around their bodies. This has both defensive and offensive capabilities, such as being used as a cannon.

  • Water ball: Similar to the bubble technique and the ice prison technique, a waterbender can trap their opponent in a ball of water. Katara used this technique to trap a fish.

  • Water bullet: The water bullet is a move where a waterbender bends a large amount of water and sends it in a forceful blow toward their target. It is similar to a water jet, but it is more for a quick use since the jet takes more concentration. It is basic yet useful because it takes little time to perform and has a significant effect on the target. Hama used this against Katara.

  • Water jab: Waterbenders can surround their fist in water and use the force of the stream to enhance a water-boxing punch.

  • Water pressure manipulation: Waterbenders are also able to manipulate water pressure, allowing them to use water to grasp other objects or cut through without simply parting around them. Water can be used as a semi-solid while being able to move and flow like a liquid. Water can be pressurized to such a level where it can slice through metal.[10] Waterbenders can also use this to avoid sinking in water, effectively allowing them to walk on water, as demonstrated by Katara multiple times.

  • Water wall/water shield: Water can be molded into a variety of shapes and can be used to deflect an attack, trap opponents in a viscous body, reshaped and propelled at attackers before they can recover, or solidified into a shield of ice. This diversity and ability to swiftly change to suit the situation is what makes the waterbender's defense so adaptable. Although usually protective, the shield needs some type of compression or else it will not be effective. This is demonstrated when Katara was fighting Zuko at the Spirit Oasis and her quickly-made shield could not block the fire blast.

  • Crushing grip of seas: This is a rare technique, where a waterbender can throw a tendril of water to wrap around a foe's limbs, holding them in place with a very strong grip.

  • Ice drill: By turning the tip into ice, waterbenders control massive amounts of water into a spiraled frozen drill.

  • Ice tunneling: Waterbenders are able to swim through thick ice with the same ease as through water, allowing them to surprise their foes.

  • Suspending rain: When it is raining, a very skillful waterbender can suspend the rain, keeping all of the rain droplets within a vicinity frozen in place for a short time.

Hinata

Chakra

Originating from the Ōtsutsuki clan, is the life energy that exists inside of the people in the world of Naruto. It is the result of energy when two other forms of energy are mixed together. These energies are both "physical" and "spiritual", once combined, you get Chakra.

Chakra is essential to even the most basic of justus. Through Hand Seals, ninja's can preform ninjutsu, genjutsu, and other secret arts separate from Taijutsu, advance ninja's can do one-handed seals usually due to their fighting style is more reliant on speed.

Chakra is not normally visible, though it can be if it's highly concentrated or manifested in large amounts. Chakra can be use to walk on water, exhaling fire, enhance speed, shapeshift, create afterimages, paralysis inducement, and creating illusions. Chakra has become a form of life energy that all individuals produce to some degree; those who run out of chakra will die. Similar to the cardiovascular system, Chakra Pathway System is the energy circulating through your body.

All ninja will have a maximum amount of chakra that they can form and apply before it runs out and they need to rest to replenish it. With practice this maximum can be increased, but to a certain level as they are limited to the quantity and strength of chakra that their genetics grants them. You can also die from having too much Chakra, the same way a ninja can die from having too little Chakra.

Since Chakra requires building up, one must work on their Chakra Control, to control and conserve your Chakra. Too much Chakra, tires you out, too little, the technique will not be effective, and ultimately wasted. Because each person's Chakra is different, they'll give off different Chakra Signature, which sensor types can detect.

Hinata due to being a Hyuga has great Chakra control, good enough to rival medic-nins, and be a part of the Four-Corner Sealing Barrier, which requires good Chakra Control.

Later on Hinata would meet Hamura Otsutsuki, and would inherit his Chakra…whatever that means, though with that Chakra she was able to give enough Chakra to Base Naruto, after it was stolen by Toneri, her Chakra strength and purity of her chakra that attracts Toneri Ōtsutsuki.

Byakugan

The Byakugan is The Hyuga’s prized possession, these “White Eyes”, in terms of the ability insight, surpasses The Sharingan. Giving the user up to almost 360-degree field of vision ( the only blindspot is located near the back of the user’s neck), and the ability to look up to 10 kilomoters (Hinata can see up to 20 by the events of Naruto the Last), while also giving them the ability to see things too small for the human eyes, like Tenketsu Points in the human body.

It can also heighten one’s perception, Hinata has become so proficient that she can sense the slightest bit of Chakra without even activating her eyes, and is a rival to Neji’s own Byakugan.

The eye can also see through objects as well as many barriers and can see chakra.

Juken (Gentle Fist)

The Juken (aka Gentle Fist), is a form of Taijutsu that the Hyuga specialize in. It inflicts internal damage by attacking and damaging the Chakra Pathway System, injuring organs which are closely intertwined with the area of the network which has been struck.

One does this by injecting a certain amount of their own Chakra into their advisory Chakra Pathway System, causing damage to surrounding organs due to their proximity to the chakra circulatory system. The slightest hit can cause severe internal damage, hence the name “gentle” fist.

With the Byakugan, an experienced user can attack Tenketsu Points, enhancing the damage and control a Gentle Fist user can impose upon an opponent's chakra network. All Chakra Based substances can be destroyed by this skill.

Since The Juken is a close quarter combat style, Gentle Fist users have a disadvantage against long ranged fighters, like how Kidōmaru took full advantage of his distance weaponry to overwhelm Neji.

While initially considered a disappointment in her youth, after her reconciliation with Neji, Hinata improved greatly to the point that she later could fight alongside and eventually surpass Neji, a genuis at his craft (partially because he’s dead), and becoming a Master of The Gentle Fist.

Eight Trigram Empty Wall Palm

After using their Byakugan to locate an opponent's vitals, the user will attack with a forceful palm thrust which releases a small wave of chakra. The attack is powerful enough to blow a person off of their feet and has a range of several meters.

A more powerful version involves two Juuken users who simultaneously strike a target with the Eight Trigrams Empty Palm technique. Hinata uses this jutsu in combination with Neji.

Gentle Step Twin Lion

Created by Hinata, The Gentle Step Twin Lion’s Fist changes the shape of Chakra released from both hands into large guardian lion-shaped shrouds.

Doing so greatly increases range and destructive power. The lion heads drain the chakra network of those they touch. It’s extremely difficult to pull off, as the slightest mistake in Chakra Control will lead to failure, meaning it is a feat requiring the Byakugan

It can be used in tandem with Eight Trigrams Sixty Four Palms, speaking of which…

8 Trigrams Sixty Four Palms

Using their Byakugan's near-360° field of vision, the Hyūga envisions themselves within the center of an Eight Trigrams symbol. The user then delivers a series of attacks to a target that is within the symbol's perimeter, striking sixty-four of their tenketsu.

Those sixty-four tenketsu are subsequently blocked, stopping the flow of chakra within the target's body and making it difficult for them to move. Alternatively, the sixty-four strikes can be split amongst multiple targets, such as to to deflect incoming projectiles.

Water Needle

Using the chakra control granted by the Gentle Fist, Hinata concentrates her chakra until water vortexes are created around her.

Those vortexes shoot water blasts which turn to needle-like water. By using Byakugan, this technique can be used with great precision to hit very small targets such as bees.

Possible Techniques due to being a Master of The Gentle Fist:

  • Jūkenpō Ichigekishin (Gentle Fist Art Single Body Blow): A close-range technique which allows the user to expel a forceful blast chakra from all of their tenketsu points at once. Similar to Kaiten, but without the spinning effect and less range.

  • Eight Trigram Palms Revolving Rotation: The moment before the Hyūga is struck by an attack, they emit Chakra from all of their body's tenketsu to block it. They then spin rapidly, repelling the attack, anything else in the vicinity, away and creating a protective shield for as long as they continue to spinThe greater the force of an attack, the greater the force with which it's repelled. The user is capable of defending not only themselves but multiple people.

  • Eight Trigrams One Hundred Twenty-Eight Palms: is a technique of the Gentle Fist fighting style. It is essentially a seventh step to the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms, doubling the previous barrage total and at twice the speed. To perform, the user crutches down while extending both arms outward, one in front and the other behind while angled like propeller blades. This adds another row of kanji to the envisioned Eight Trigrams symbol, extending the technique's perimeter.

  • Hakkeshou Kaiten (Eight Trigrams Palms Heavenly Spin): The user releases chakra from all tenketsu points on their body and spins rapidly to create a small omnidirectional vortex of chakra that can be used for defensive purposes.

  • Mountain Crusher: A more powerful variation of Eight Trigrams Vacuum Palm. The user hits the target at close range with a powerful wave of chakra emitted from their palm, which sends them flying back, causing severe damage.

  • Tenketsu Needle: Targeting a single Chakra point, the user delivers a two-fingered strike at the opponent, in an attempt to plug the Chakra that's being used and halt its flow.

  • Palm Bottom: This attack consists of a quick, precise thrust of the user's palm to the opponent's body. The attack sends Chakra into the area of the foe where struck to either stun them, or if a more sufficient amount of chakra is used, cause severe internal damage.

Scaling

Katara

Team Avatar

Outside of the Avatar State Aang, Katara should reliably scale to the entirety of Team Avatar (WHICH INCLUDES SUKI STOP FORGETTING HER), as she is the Greatest Water Bender in the world.

Various others

Korra Era Characters

While Avatar State Korra is off the table, Base Korra and other benders should be viable for Katara to scale to, especially considering Old Toph could beat Korra.

Hinata

Neji

While initially Neji started out as the stronger of the two, overtime they became each other equal, and after his death she surpassed him.

Konoha 12

Hinata should realistically be above many of the other members of The Konoha 12, even at the very least Base Form Lee, possibly higher.

Team 7 (Base)

I know this might seem strange, but for now bare with me, as you’ll see later why this is a section.

Experience

Katara

Katara is a Water Bending Prodigy, she is quite versatile in her Water Bending, and equally powerful. While the morality of it is questionable, Blood Bending is the highest form of Water Bending, and Katara got it on her first try after just learning of it. She became a master in just a few months, and trained Aang, and Korra, The Avatar’s, into mastery. Over the years her skills have only improved by the age of Korra, becoming The Greatest WaterBender.

Hinata

Hinata may have had a rough time as a kid, but she quickly proved herself to be a capable shinobi, as she was trained in the Gentle Fist since childhood, while she was no prodigy, after her fight with Neji, Hinata grew to become a strong fighter, one who could fight alongside Neji equally. By the time of Boruto, she was considered a Master of The Gentle Fist, trained her children, and while retired, beat her sister, Hanabi in a fight, who was still an active shinobi.

Weaknesses

Katara

Water Benders need to be around a source of water, or have water on them, otherwise they are basically screwed. While she is quite athletic and has exceptional agility, Katara is no hand to hand combat fighter.

Hinata

Gravity

Hinata is a skilled fighter, but her skill primarily lies in Taijutsu, meaning long ranged fighters do have an advantage over her, and The Byakugan does have a blind spot in the back of their necks.

Hinata scaling to Base Naruto?!!!

OKAY SO

In Naruto The Last, Hinata receives a Boost in power by Hamura Ootsutsuki, while there has been no sayings on how strong that makes her, she was able to use this new found power (which changed the color of her Chakra) to destroy the Tenseigan alongside Base Naruto, furthermore she was able to fight off multiple of Toneri’s head puppets.

These puppets could keep up with Naruto himself, moreso when Toneri stole Naruto Chakra again, this time draining him from his KCM form, and Naruto does say that all his Chakra is being drained, Hinata restores his Chakra with her own, so it's quite possible Hinata could scale to Base Naruto/Team 7, however, since I know this’ll be contentious, I’ll leave it up to everyone in the verdicts to make their own decision.

LukeTime

Thanks to Sonurge for having me. I've never done this before so I’ll try and keep things concise as best as I can. I also don't have much experience with these shows, mostly just clips here and there, but I’ve done my research to try and give myself as informed a perspective as I can.

Starting with Katara, she has a clear range advantage from the beginning. Her Waterbending can reach tens of meters, while the closest thing Hinata has to a similar ranged attack is the Twin Lions. In addition, their area of effect is much greater, giving her superior battlefield control, and her ice and water prisons could feasibly restrict Hinata’s movement. With these advantages, plus the power of Bloodbending, Katara could feasibly win a fight were she to keep her distance.

By comparison, Hinata is far more suited to close-range combat. Since all people have chakra, and the somewhat similar chi is the source of Katara’s bending, a few precise strikes from Hinata could disable the former’s Waterbending and her primary option in combat. While Katara’s attacks have a greater area of effect and have superior range, the Byakugan grants Hinata the awareness needed to evade her attacks and potentially get in close, and could see through any mist barriers Katara could create, since they can see through objects.

Ultimately, I’m not sure who would win an equal stats battle, but that’s not what we’re here to discuss. I think for the most part, the fight comes down to who has the higher stats to capitalize on their advantages and wincons, and this is where the tide shifts firmly away from Katara.

Speed is the most notable here; Hinata has pretty straightforward light speed scaling through Neji to the likes of the Konoha 12, whereas the best Katara can get is to Mach 321 through lightning-timing; light is over 2700 times faster, giving Hinata more than enough time to react to and evade Katara’s ranged attacks, and more importantly, close the distance.

Even then, Katara has multiple options to restrain Hinata’s movement, especially through Bloodbending and ice prisons. However, Hinata’s greater strength should be able to break through. Strength feats from characters such as Jiraiya and Rock Lee can reach the double-digit megatons to the gigatons, thousands of times greater than the feats Katara scales to through Legend of Korra. As many of her techniques can cover her entire body, it would be very difficult for Katara to land a blow on Hinata without it being blocked by her chakra, whereas Katara’s own ice and water shields would be quickly broken.

This is without taking the video games or Hamura’s chakra into consideration, as these add further consistency to Hinata’s strength advantage and give her higher scaling to stronger characters. With Toneri’s moon-to-planet level feats, there are very few options Katara could take for a possible victory, and Hinata has more than enough experience to overcome the range advantage with her ninja mobility.

Overall, while Katara’s myriad of abilities certainly would certainly give Hinata some trouble, she simply lacks the speed and power necessary to put them to use before being overwhelmed, while a single strike from Hinata would end the fight immediately. She Bya-couldn't bend her way out of this fight. The winner is Hinata Hyuga.

Thank you Sonurge for letting me do a verdict on this blog! As a child of the late 90s, these shows were all the rage when I was hitting my teenage years. Avatar and Naruto were both shows my brother and I bonded over as kids but rediscovered over the past few years as adults. The real question is how they fair when you compare them directly. While these two ladies are the “best girls” to the fanbases of both, only one is the superior fighter.

Katara definitely has superior versatility. Her waterbending allows for many different techniques. She can immobilize Hinata and attack her from multiple angles and heal. One of her best win coms will be just overwhelming her with projectiles in comparison to Hinata's slightly more ranged options. However with Hinata's perfect 360 Byakugan and ability to disperse water and energies, I feel like she'd be able to counter this strat. Hinata doesn't have quite the experience Katara does but it shouldn't be too much trouble with her specific tools.

Katara's other big win condition is Bloodbending. While she isn't used to using it and it's a sour spot for her, it is an instant win button in a lot of ways. Not only can she just kill or force Hinata open, given how Bloodbending is used in Korra, she might even be able to block Hinata’s chakra flow in a lot of ways. Hinata’s options are a lot less versatile but are still important and being able to do this could give Katara a win.

Unfortunately Katara just won't get the chance. Katara simply cannot compete with the stats of Hinata. Water and blood bending can bypass durability but speed and strength are simply way out of Katara's league. One of the questions of this blog was whether or not Hinata could scale to Team 7 in base. I personally came to the conclusion that she could at the very least not scale to Base Naruto. His moon feat is far too large. Even though she can't scale to that though, she should still be stronger and faster than Katara. Being comparable to Neji makes her comparable to Kisame and thus Lee and Gai in 6th gate. Their meteor busting and light dodging feats are still stronger than everything in Avatar. This also puts Hinata not too far away from the other Team 7 feats.

Realistically I feel like Hinata should simply outstat, regardless of comparing to her husband. While Katara has interesting wincons, she needs to pull the bloodbending option extremely quickly. Given Hinata's speed advantage and Katara's own reluctance to bloodbend, this feels unlikely to happen. Katara does have greater experience and versatility, so I don't think this is a blowout. But more often than not, I think the Hyuuga has this. Hinata Hyuga is bent, but not broken, and Katara is put on eyes.

Hello everyone!!! I’d like to say thank you to Sonurge for having me on here again!! I definitely enjoyed my time with the last one I was on, while I would not consider myself a big fan of either of these series, I do remember watching them both when I was much younger, and I am very familiar with these series, including VS wise, and I certainly like these 2 characters especially. But anyways, how about we dive in now???

So starting off, you may have noticed that Katara has a lot of versatility and range with her water bending! So many things she’s done with water alone, but also ice and even plants. She could keep herself at a distance and throw Hinata for a couple of loops with this stuff. Hinata is overall less versatile in abilities, and her needing to get up close would give Katara some good leeway, that is until Hinata gets in close, of course, where she could attack Katara’s Chakra directly and shut down her water bending. Her ability to have full awareness of the battlefield around them could also help her deal with the range of Katara’s water shenanigans. Katara’s most dangerous tool here is the blood bending though, this would probably be her most reliable wincon in this match, and while she’s usually not willing to use this off the bat, she has before as a last resort option. So with all that in mind, this could go back and forth, right? Well if they were on equal footing, sure, but that’s why we have to move onto stats now, and see who can really pull off these abilities more reliably.

In terms of stats, Katara can scale to lightning timers like Zuko and Amon, which would net her at Mach 321 at best, but Hinata can outright scale to lightspeed statements. And while Katara can scale to some pretty impressive feats of strength herself, they’re nothing compared to 6th Gate Lee busting a meteor, which is gigatons in power. And this is without scaling to any of the Team 7 members in base, which could push Hinata’s scaling to petatons or even zettatons of TNT in power. Simply put, Hinata outstats, no matter how you slice it, and harshly so, giving Hinata the opportunity to pressure Katara and get the right hit in to finish the job, before Katara could even pull off bloodbending on her.

And that’s just how it goes! Both Katara and Hinata are extremely skilled fighters, both trained and experienced in their own abilities. Katara may have been extremely versatile and ranged, but Hinata’s strength, speed, and own abilities were enough to deal with this tough water bender. It was “ice” to know you Katara, but Hinata Hyuga was just a gentle step above!!!

Alright everyone, I'm finally back for another Verdict and I know nothing about Hinata oh crap.

Um....

First off, Katara has an exceptional amount of versatility as a Waterbender, and a major pro is how much she's able to heal from with her powers, something to definitely keep in mind. Bloodbending of course is a very scary concept that she has performed after The Puppetmaster episode, and is well worth keeping in mind for better and worse.

But Hinata isn't defenseless. Thanks to Naruto's classic Chakra life energy, as well as abilities like Byakugan, she has exceptional perception available to her, a necessity when fighting someone as multi talented as a Waterbender.

Both of them have trained their powers for years, and displayed immense skill throughout their lives. However, I'm leaning towards Katara for a few reasons.

Her powers are not only too versatile, but they're almost entirely ranged and do not have a significant limit. Chakra does have a maximum for all users, and Taijutsu is not a fighting style that pairs well against a fighter who almost entirely can fight from a distance.

This would require Hinata to be much faster and more powerful to make her hits count before being overwhelmed by Katara and her many options. While Katara needs water to be able to do almost anything, she has proven her skills in Plant Bending in case she runs out of flowing water in some way.

Of course, this likely boils down to trying to compare their stats and how much of a difference that makes, but whether it's selfish or not I loath trying to understand calculations especially for a verdict as it's not what I take more into account. I do believe if Hinata has enough of a stat advantage and gap between them, then Katara's only option to try and guarantee the win would be her Bloodbending, which of course she has only used after learning when truly beyond feeling concerned about using it. She would need to go for it early in the fight in this situation or be overpowered.

In the end, I'm very hesitant and could easily be swayed differently, but for now at least I'm giving the win to Katara. Much like Starfire vs Blaze and Bowser vs Eggman, I'm focusing much more on the characters themselves and their abilities and skills, but the stats do still play a major role and would determine in the end how Hinata could win based on Katara's less likely wincons.

Conclusion

I wanted to do it. I wanted to take out all my anger at him. But... I couldn’t. I don’t know if it’s because I’m too weak to do it, or if it’s because I’m strong enough not to.

Advantages:

  • More versatile abilities

  • Knows some hand to hand moves…

  • Blood Bending could potentially one shot

  • Longer range gives a great advantage over The Gentle Fist weakness

  • More experienced

  • Possibly more skilled

  • Woulda killed it in an equal stats battle

  • Better written

  • Better romance

Disadvantage:

  • Stat stomped

  • ….but like c’mon now Hinata’s whole thing is hand to hand combat lol

  • No good in close combat

  • Hates papaya

  • Cries about hope all the time tbh

  • Zutara

"Therefore, Stand Up Together With Me, Naruto... Because Never Going Back On One's Word... Is My Ninja Way, Too!"

Advantage:

  • Takes stats no matter how you slice it

  • Superior in hand to hand combat

  • Byakugan gives her near total awareness over the battlefield

  • Gentle Step will affect Katara

  • Hinata “Best Girl” Hyuga

  • Better Mother tbh

Disadvantage:

  • Not as versatile

  • Less experienced

  • Arguably not as skilled

  • Blood Bending could one shot

  • Naruhina<<<<<<Kataang (Not hatin tho)

  • Early 2000’s Anime girl….doesn’t get the best writing unfortunately

  • Gravity

  • Sasuhina
