Queen Poppy, The benevolent, happy-go-lucky ruler of the Pop Trolls
Smurfette, Gargamel’s troublemaking creation turned beloved member of The Smurfs
We’ve seen a lot of iconic rivalries in Death Battle, haven't we? Mario vs Sonic, Naruto vs Star Wars, Marvel vs DC, Dragon Ball vs Everyone! But none compare to the ultimate rivalry of all…..TROLLS VS SMURFS!!!
This rivalry is without peer, it is the ultimate series combination! And today we’re putting the leading ladies from both series against each other to determine who will win this ultimate clash of music and magic! The Queen of the Pop Trolls, Poppy vs The First Female Smurf in the series, Smurfette!
Will Poppy’s True Colors be enough to give her opponent a good smurfing, or will Smurfette knock her over, and keep her from getting back up again? Let us find out today, and see who will win a……Death Battle!
Hol up…….
This one’s a bit complicated, so let's start with Smurfette, we’ll be looking at the original Smurfs comics. Not only that, but the animated series, both old and new, the movies, video games, and shorts we can find.
Poppy is where things are a bit more complicated, of course we’ll be looking at the trilogy of Trolls movies, the canon holiday movies, and shorts. However, we’ll also be looking at the two animated series, its shorts, and any game from the series.
This might seem a bit confusing, as Dreamworks tv division of shows have been stated as non-canon to the movies. However, while it does have some plot contradictions, the shows are for the most part pretty consistent in tone and Troll abilities and certain events from the shows have even been brought up/referenced in the movies canon. (The characters of Val Thundershock and Holly, who’s first appearance was in the shows, were brought into the fold of the movie’s universe).
Furthermore, 3 Trolls movies vs 60 years of Smurfs content, all of which aren’t exactly in the same canon as well just wouldn’t be fair to Poppy. So we’ll be using everything for both to get the most potential out of this matchup.
We would also like to thank FMTT, and shoutout his Crocker vs Gargamel blog as one of our main sources for research in this blog, it also inspired us to get the ball rolling and work on this blog!
Finally, Smurfs and Trolls get….crazy, like really crazy. So, we’d appreciate constructive criticism for future blogs!
Note: This blog was worked on before the trailer for the new Smurfs movie and while the webseries Trolls Funfair is airing.
Now then, sit back, relax, and please don’t sing, it might just kill your grandma!
Background
Poppy
Long ago, all the Troll Genre’s lived in harmony, then everything changed when the Pop Trolls attacked. Seeking to make sure that Pop was the only music shared amongst the Tribes, Pop stole their strings, the key to all music, and kept it to themselves.
The other genre’s worked together, to retain their own personal music strings, and then separated, each tribe took their own land in what would be known as Troll Kingdom. Defeated, Pop gathered into a tree, changed the contents of their terrible history, hid their string, and lived their days in peace, until they were discovered by the Bergens, who would capture them, and eat them every Trollistice to gain happiness at least once a year.
Eventually, The King of Pop, Peppy, would find a way to help his people escape, and they would take to the forest to rebuild their civilization. King Peppy would rule for twenty years, before passing the mantle of ruler down to his daughter, Princess Poppy.
Like all Trolls, Poppy loved the good vibes, and as queen was eager to make all her subjects happy. Including a grey recluse and village grouch, Branch, whom she would never give up on making him happy, to his dismay.
Soon, the twentieth anniversary of the Trolls' escape from Bergen Town would commence, but the Chef of all Bergens, would find their hidden village and capture a few of Poppy’s friends. Determined to save them, Poppy, with the help of a blackmailed Branch, would soon set out on an adventure to save them, while getting closer along the way.
However, one friend, Creek (who was her crush), would betray them, selling out their village, and letting the Trolls be captured. In her despair, Poppy and her fellow Trolls would turn grey. However, one Troll never gave up on her, that troll would be Branch.
Confessing his love for her, he and Poppy would regain their true colors, alongside the rest of her people. With their never ending optimism and love for music, Poppy and Co. would convince the Bergens that they don’t need to eat a Troll to be happy, happiness was already inside of them.
With this, Poppy would make peace between Trolls and Bergens, not only that, when Barb, the Queen of Rock would aim to take control of all Trolls, Poppy would stop her, confront her people’s past sins, and reunite all the Tribes, accepting each other differences and choosing to harmonizes together, founding a new village, Trollstopia, where any genre of Troll can live together in peace.
Furthermore, Poppy would help Branch reunite and make peace with his brothers, even joining their band, and reuniting with her own long lost sister (who her father never told her about, the jerk) and create a funfair for all Trolls. Poppy may not be perfect, having to overcome her listening problem and overeagerness to please everyone, but she has proven herself to be a great queen, girlfriend, musician, and most importantly, a great friend, spreading happiness to everyone in need.
You can’t stop this feeling with Poppy around!
Smurfette
Deep within the forest lies a peaceful village inhabited by tiny blue creatures known as Smurfs. Each Smurf is named after their job or personality, such as Brainy being a know-it-all, Handy being the repairman, Hefty being the muscle, Chef being the cook, or Clumsy being well…clumsy. All of whom are led by the wise, elderly patriarch of the village. Papa Smurf.
Unfortunately, the Smurfs' everyday lives are constantly threatened by the evil wizard Gargamel and his pet cat Azrael. For years, Gargamel has tried again and again to capture those little blue nuisances, whether it’d be to eat them, turn them into gold or use their essence for power.
One day, while feeling extremely frustrated and spiteful, Gargamel decided on a new plan to exact revenge on the Smurfs; by getting them through their hearts. He was going to send them a female Smurf - a Smurfette!
Crafted from a lump of clay, Smurfette was magically brought to life and sent out by Gargamel to find Smurf Village and wreak havoc on their Smurfy way of life. She would be found crying all alone in the middle of the forest by Hefty Smurf, who brought her to the village.
Smurfette quickly proved herself to be quite the troublemaker as she caused many problems amongst the Smurfs, with the final straw being when she ended up nearly flooding the village.
Having had enough, Papa Smurf ordered her to be taken to court and put on trial, where she admitted she had been created by Gargamel and was working under his orders the entire time, while expressing her desire to become a real Smurf.
And so, Papa Smurf worked his magic by using a “True Blue Spell” to transform Smurfette into the beautiful blonde-haired Smurf we know today, immediately gaining an arousing reaction from the rest of the village.
When Gargamel realized that the Smurfs managed to change his creation both physically and morally, he tricked her into bringing them to a picnic which (surprise!) turned out to be a trap. Smurfette knew it was time to prove that she really had changed for the better. Taking on the role of a masked hero titled “The Lone Smurf”, she defeated Gargamel and Azrael before freeing her friends. From then on, Smurfette had truly earned her place as a real Smurf.
However, Smurfette still had one more problem she had yet to figure out; what exactly was her purpose? Unlike the other Smurfs in the village, her name doesn’t tell us exactly what she does or what her personality is like. Just that she’s a Smurf who happens to be a girl.
It wouldn’t be long until Smurfette discovered she nor the other Smurfs were alone as within the Forbidden Forest lied an entire village of female Smurfs, whom unlike the male Smurfs aren’t named after a specific trait but rather elements of nature, with Smurf being used as a prefix for their names a lot like Smurfette.
After spending time with the Smurf Girls, rescuing them and her friends from the clutches of Gargamel and bringing both sides of Smurf society together, Smurfette realized that she doesn’t need a single defining trait to fit in, because that’s exactly what makes her special;
She can be anything she wants to be.
Experience and Skill
Poppy
Poppy has the perception of being a ditzy, happy all the time, clueless Pop Queen, even in the movies and shows her allies and foes might underestimate her.....that would be a mistake.
Poppy is extremely creative and quite smart, able to outsmart and outwit, even Branch. Branch maybe the village grouch-
Branch: Grump actually.
Grump, right, sorry. However, Branch is a known scientist and inventor, one who spent his whole life planning and practicing for defense against all possible threats, not just against Bergens, but also the dangerous creatures and plants in the forest, many of which Poppy has encountered, that's extremely impressive.
Poppy is a trickster, in the Prank Day episode, she let Branch believe he was one step ahead of her the entire day, actively letting him prank her and believe he was ahead, just to reveal she had created an elaborate plan to beat him, all just to prove that she was the Prank Master, and it worked.
Another instance would be the time she tricked Queen Barb into thinking she was mind controlled even when she wasn’t, using the gumdrop trick she learned from Hickory, earlier in the film. Moreso, when confronting Chaz on whether or not he was mind controlling the village, Poppy planned ahead by bringing a gift box with Keith inside, knowing that children were immune to his mind control, allowing Keith to stop Chaz and save the day.
Poppy has broken into Branch’s bunker, multiple times, even on its highest difficulty, and planned a way to get the flag that was in his bunker away from him, with a 4D chess play. Poppy is smart, extremely smart, and when she wants something, she’ll put her whole heart into getting it. It doesn’t always work, but most of the time it does.
Not to mention, while her means of getting a Black Belt was questionable, she definitely earned it, she’s a genuine Hair-Jitsu expert/master, having trained Branch in it, Poppy uses it for defense and has extreme patience, like all Trolls she can party or adventure from day and later into the night, heck Guy Diamond once stayed up for an entire week once, though he was extremely tired by the end of it and passed out for hours, even a song montage couldn’t wake him.
Poppy may not look it, because she's an extremely talented Troll, and I don’t mean just her singing.
Smurfette
While Smurfette started off as the typical damsel in distress archetype, she’s grown over the years to prove that she’s just as capable as any other Smurf.
Smurfette has tagged along on many of the Smurfs’ adventures, having seen a large variety of mystical creatures and items and has survived it all. She’s even shown to be quite gifted in magic as shown with her use of her Dragon Wand.
Starting with the live-action movies, Smurfette began to show some decent prowess in combat, being able to fight off the likes of Azrael. The CGI series cranked this up to 11 where she’s now become a master in the art of Smurf-Fu, which she learned on her own through reading a book about it. She’s used the martial art to fight off Gargamel, Azrael, predatory creatures, and even the entirety of Smurf Village (Albeit with some help from the Smurf Girls) when they were under hypnosis.
More importantly, Smurfette is quite smart and resourceful. She’s one of the few Smurfs to get the whole village to settle down and work together and has developed multiple plans to defeat Gargamel, like the time she lead a rescue plan to save Papa offering herself up as bait so the other Smurfs could rescue him or when she successfully tricked him into casting a spell on her to absorb his magic. Smurfette’s wit and quick thinking, alongside her common sense has always put her ahead, Papa has even praised her for this.
She really puts the “Smurf” in Smurfette.
Abilities
Poppy
Pop Troll Physiology
Pop Trolls are tiny creatures that on average stand at 6 inches tall (Hair included). Though their height can vary, with Poppy herself being 5.5 inches. Compared to other tribes, Pop Trolls are the most reliant on utilizing their hair.
The most defining part of a Troll (regardless of their genre) is their love for music and singing, the music lies inside them, and it strengthens them. Some have sought them out in order to improve their own singing ability by stealing their Talent, which is not only the source of a Troll’s musical prowess, but also their very life force, and as such will die when completely drained of it.
Hair Manipulation
A Troll’s hair is their greatest ally and defense, as in the past they used it to blend in and camouflage with their environment. While they do usually use it for fun, they can use it for offensive purposes too.
Troll hair contains shapeshifting capabilities that are practically limitless; they've made stairs, cannon balls, ladders, flails, parachutes, giant fists, helicopter blades, gliders, drills and so much more. Heck, they’re capable of creating actual explosions with their hair. Their hair can also light up in the dark and be used as a hammerspace to store tons of items and accessories.
There also seems to be no limit to how long they can stretch their hair, one time Poppy and friends stretched their hair all the way to the moon!
Their imaginations, which Trolls have plenty of, is their only limit.
Twist
Poppy performs a spinning hair attack that can reflect projectiles.
Swirl
Poppy performs a spinning hair attack in midair, allowing her to float and land multiple hits on enemies.
Toon Force
Trolls have shown some level of Toon Force, such as their bodies having elastic properties, manipulating their eyes to do weird stuff, Smidge was once able to rotate her entire head, and they can briefly pause themselves in the air to make a quip before falling.
Broadway Force
This is the state trolls tap into whenever they are performing a song. Not only can they force others to dance (even against their will), but they also gain a variety of different abilities during these moments. While they may seem like visuals, there are multiple instances that show they are actually happening. Other abilities the Trolls have shown with Broadway Force include:
Subjective Reality: Trolls can use their imaginations to basically warp reality to make their musical numbers as much of a spectacle as they can be.
Immersion: Branch immersed himself in a photo.
Creation: Branch created square platforms to stand on and a pair of glasses
Intangibility: Trolls can phase through objects.
Transmutation: Poppy turned a small sun into a lily pad, then a cloud, then some kind of funk energy. Branch turned a map into a hole
Cloud Manipulation: Trolls can create and manipulate clouds.
Wing Growth: Trolls can grow wings to fly.
Heat Manipulation: Poppy performed a musical number that raised the temperature to melt away some gloop.
Size Manipulation: Poppy was able to increase her size to where other trolls can enter her lungs.
Day and Night Manipulation
Because you can’t stop the feeling, Poppy was able to turn night into day.
Color Manipulation
Poppy has the ability to manipulate and create colors, as seen above.
Static Electricity Manipulation
Trolls can charge up and store static electricity in themselves and fire it at others.
Flight
As seen above Poppy and other Trolls can fly.
Duplication
Trolls can make duplicates of themselves. Poppy once made at least three, Creek made five of himself, and if they get really creative they can make a bunch of them.
Glitter Boost
Seems that Poppy has used so much flipping glitter that she stored up glitter in her body, allowing her to increase her speed, not just while running but flying too.
4th Wall Awareness
Trolls have interacted with split screens, opened a closing iris at the end of an episode, and physically moved the screen to the next scene, among other things. There have also been ads of them interacting with the real world and acknowledging their own movie.
Poppy: OH MY GOSH, MY OWN BLOG! HOW FUNNNNN!!!!
Plant Manipulation
Poppy has shown the ability to manipulate plants, as seen above, and the Trolls singing alone was able to restore the Troll Tree This is a consistent ability (10:43) that multiple Trolls have shown. (02:02)
Non-Physical Interaction
Poppy can physically clear darkness and has interacted with clouds on more than a few occasions.
Hair-Jitsu
Hair-Jitsu is the ancient Troll art of hair-fighting, and it takes the Trolls' hair to the next lvl, combining their hair’s limitless capabilities of imagination with hand-to-hand combat.
Hair-Jitsu is not about speed, it's about slowing down and finding your moment. It requires patience and letting your enemy’s attack come for you.
Poppy is a master of Hair-Jitsu, having received her black belt.
Hairball-duken
Obvious reference aside, by gathering pieces of her hair in a ball Poppy can release a fiery hair ball at her opponents, sending them flying in a glittery explosion. Only Trolls with a black hairband in Hair-Jitsu are capable of learning this move.
Emotion Senses
Poppy can sense when someone is sad and who that person is, allowing her to find them. Not only can she passively summon rain, one time she created a miniature rainbow and clouds behind her.
Freeze Tag
This is an ability that’s consistent across both the movies and the shows. Trolls love Freeze Tag, they are so dedicated to it that they will remain frozen for the entire day if need be!
What’s crazy about this you may ask, this ability is not just a game Trolls are really dedicated to, it actually freezes them in place, and not just Trolls, but anybody caught by this ability, like the creatures of the forest as seen above.
Poppy and Branch are the only one’s ever shown to resist this, however, it's possibly due to the fact that the stop command wasn’t directed at them, but the ensuing chaos around them.
Don’t know if they’re frozen in time, or something else, but this is not just a game, or just a gag, this is Freeze Tag!
Teleportation
As seen above Poppy can teleport. She can also seemingly teleport others alongside her.
Electricity Manipulation/Telekinesis
Poppy can call forth electricity and telekinetically move objects.
Smurfette
Smurf Physiology
Despite not being a Smurf made by conventional means, Smurfette was magically transformed into a real one by Papa Smurf and as such shares most of the same traits.
Smurfs are tiny blue human-like creatures that stand at 3 apples tall (Or more specifically 7.5 inches according to the live-action films). Smurfs generally have a longer lifespan than most creatures, being able to live for hundreds of years. This is due to the effects of the Long Life Stone, which has kept the Smurfs from accelerated aging and their possible destruction.
Smurfs are also highly sought after by wizards, since they are part of the ingredient for the formula that turns base metals into gold, or for their essence simply called “Smurf Essence”, a powerful substance that grants a variety of magical abilities (More on that later).
Float
Smurfette can temporarily float in the air to cross dangerous hazards such as gaps. She has a similar ability in The Smurfs Epic Run referred to as “Gliding”.
Energy Absorption
Due to the nature of her creation, Smurfette is able to absorb energy rather than emitting it like natural Smurfs. With this, she was able to smurf away energy from Brainy’s machine, resist the effects of Gargamel Freeze Ball’s, and completely smurf Gargamel’s magic, nullifying his power and returning the essence back to the Smurfs.
Toon Force
Smurfs can utilize hammerspace to pull items out of nowhere and have elastic bodies that can stretch, shape and rebound from being flattened.
Immersion
Smurfs have immersed themselves in TV screens, interacted with their own reflection, and eaten a piece of cake from a painting.
The Smurfy Touch
The Smurfy Touch is a spell that allows the user to turn anything they touch into whatever they want. It is gained by reciting the following incantation:
"Is it, fizzit, fazzit, fib
SkibidiIbbit, abbit, ribbit, dib
I don't presume to ask too much
Just please give me the Smurfy Touch."
The spell proved to be quite dangerous as Smurfette found out when she accidentally turned Brainy into a sculpture of smurfberry candy.
In order to be removed from The Smurfy Touch, the user will have to endure an awful-tasting antidote for at least an hour.
Non-Physical Interaction
Smurfette was able to physically interact with a Poltersmurf and should be comparable to other Smurfs who were able to interact with Jokey’s shadow.
4th Wall Awareness
Smurfs have broken the fourth wall on quite a few occasions, such as acknowledging the audience, narrating the movie, referencing background Smurfs, tampering with the border of the comic, popping speech bubbles, and even being able to exist outside the comic itself to write it. Smurfette also once interviewed her voice actress in The Lost Village, Demi Lovato.
Smurfette: Oh, um, thanks for having me. I’ll smurf my best!
Smurf-Fu
When Smurfette decided it was about time to learn how to properly defend herself, she started practicing the art of Smurf-Fu.
Smurf-Fu requires perseverance, mental fortitude, and discipline…Jokey, you'reyour out.
Jokey: Smurf-Fu is no fun!
Smurfette became extremely focused on the martial art, believing it was better than relying on others in a dangerous forest, but eventually she learned that both Smurf-Fu and help from friends were better together.
Smurfette has proven herself to be a master of Smurf-Fu, having stated to be a black belt.
Smurfing Scream
A technique in which Smurfette pulls someone’s ear, slaps their nose, then tickles them before releasing a loud scream that kicks up dust and knocks down her opponents.
Baby Smurf was able to replicate the move on a bear.
Cloth Manipulation
Smurfette is somehow able to instantly change uniforms, going from her usual attire to her Smurf-Fu outfit. This can be useful to quickly access her other outfits that grant her passive abilities and items to use.
Sealing/BFR
After defeating Vexy and Hackus in The Smurfs 2 video game, Smurfette is able to trap them in some sort of magic bubble that sends them away.
Resistances
Poppy
Acid: Poppy has been eaten and smurfed out a total of four times, three times in the movies and once in the show, and she’s been fine every single time.
Cosmic Radiations/Extreme Cold: Trolls have shown to be able to survive in space and be completely fine.
Extreme Heat: Was fine while hanging from inside a volcano.
Transmutation: Pop Trolls can come back from turning into stickers.
Ice Manipulation: Was unaffected after being hit by R & B’s freeze ray.
Smurfette
Magic Attacks (Slightly limited): As stated before Smurfette is able to absorb magic rather than emit it like natural Smurfs, which is how she resisted the effects of Gargamel’s freeze balls. Though specific spells that can revert her back to her original clay form can still work on her if she absorbs too much.
Ice Manipulation: Smurfs can break out of solid ice.
Cosmic Radiations/Extreme Cold: Can survive being on the moon.
Fire Manipulation: With the Fire Ring or Umbrella Smurfette
Adhesive Manipulation: With the Glue Ring
Equipment
Poppy
Hug-Time Bracelet
Pop Trolls commonly wear these to notify them when it’s Hug-Time (Or to keep time in general). However, the bracelets also contain a magical energy within them which can heal Trolls or send out a wave of energy that knocks back foes and activates magical objects.
Scrapbooks
Pop Trolls love to Scrapbook, and Poppy loves it the most. She can literally make Scrapbooks within a second, just for fun or to summarize or figure out certain events.
Glitter
Trolls not only love, but are obsessed with glitter. It has the same value to them that gold or diamonds would to humans in the real world, and they have a tendency to freak out over any shortage of it.
While they normally use glitter for things like scrapbooking or invitations, it can be weaponized to blind opponents. They can also use Glitterballs as projectiles.
Gary
While Gary is Branch’s remote control, The Snack Pack (including Poppy) have used Gary tons of time, mostly due to the fact that they have broken into Branch’s bunker more times than they could count, Cooper once did it just to watch Branch sleep.
Through Gary, Branch and Co. have access to many of the tricks and traps Branch has set up throughout Troll Village, this includes
Cages
Springs
Needles
Trampolines
Nets
Flamethrowers
A large Baseball Glove
Laser Grids
Safety bubbles
A giant fan
A giant mallet
And an emergency escape cart
Invitations
As a Pop Troll, and the Queen no less, Poppy loves to party, and she comes locked and loaded with tons of invitations to her parties, complete with a pop up version of herself and so much flipping glitter.
Sometimes the invitations come with glitter that is explosive, as seen above. Kinda like getting a present from Jokey Smurf now that I think about it.
Fireworks
Usually she uses these for a party, or even as distraction, or….just to ride them up to space.
Gumdrops
Not only are they yummy and delicious, but they also protect Poppy from all sound based mind control, as long as they are in her ears (gross).
Spray Bottle
When the Trolls figured out how to utilize sand-to-water ratios, they were able to create different materials out sand by using a spray bottle, which allowed them to not only build a sand castle, but they also made a variety of tools, helmets and spears, a fountain, a chandelier, a battering ram, a trojan horse, and a carpet.
Switcher-Ruby
If two people touch this ruby at the same time, they’ll change places (switch bodies), and it takes a whole day to recharge the ruby.
Rainbow Maker
The Rainbow Maker makes, well, Rainbows, however removing or not building it with an extra gear-
Branch: STOP CALLING IT AN EXTRA GEAR!
Yeah whatever nerd, not having this piece will make a Rainbow like Tornado, one strong enough to wreck the village.
Prank Gift
Jokey Smurf: BAHAAAAAAAAA! I like her!
Water Balloon
Given to her by Sky Toranto, Poppy can drop this massive Water Balloon on her target; a similar one created a watery explosion that could be seen from space.
Flyer Bug
Poppy can ride on this bug to race and get around the village at great speeds. It can even travel on water as well.
Shield
Poppy can use this shield to protect herself from attacks, like lasers.
Bubbles
Poppy can blow bubbles that can contain others in them.
Pillows
Poppy is very proficient in the art of pillow fighting, and in pillow fights, you need pillows.
Pillow Castle
A castle, made of Pillows.
Critterboard
She can use this critter to surf.
Cater-beast Costume
A suit based off an imaginary bug that’s used as a prop for plays. It can also be used to attack and scare off smaller foes. Though it requires at least four Trolls to control the suit, Poppy’s ability to duplicate herself should be an easy workaround.
Rocket Ship
Poppy has a ship that can travel to a rainbow.
Feather
Uses this to tickle swag stags so that they cough up swag.
Blimp
A blimp that Poppy uses to get around.
Star Maker
A box forged by the purest glitter that can transmutetransmutate rocks into a glowing disco ball that compels those who gaze upon it to dance.
Potions
Made from the rations in Branch’s Bunker, Poppy has a potion that can make you sick while changing your colors, and one that can make you super buff, which probably grants extra strength with it.
∞ Scrapbook
A scrapbook that can predict the future. Poppy used this to save Trolls and prevent accidents, not realizing that her attempts to change the future caused these disasters to happen.
The scrapbook also has the power to go back to the past, repeating events from the beginning.
Rock Guitar
A guitar so powerful that it can send out lightning, and if strummed hard enough, can blast away planets!
Gravity Belt
Gravity, time and reality are a bit flexible on the Vibe Town spaceship, thus the girls are given gravity belts so they can move around the lab easily.
Dune Huggy
The Dune Huggy is an all-terrain vehicle capable of going anywhere on land, equipped with boosters and two mechanical arms that extend from tubes mounted on the chassis used for making sharp turns and climbing trees.
It also comes with ejector seats and a lasso made of funk energy that was used to catch a hairicane.
The vehicle secures its passengers and drives via smaller arms that "hug" the Trolls in place.
Funk Technology Remote
A remote that can open wormholes into other dimensions in the multiverse, Poppy and friends used it for an interdimensional scavenger hunt.
The remotes are capable of opening wormholes under others to send them to any dimension the user chooses and can create a vacuum effect to suck things in, making this a very effective method of BFR.
TNP
TNP causes an explosion that can both create and erase things from existence. Holly used it to create a glitter mine with a sign and tracks, and Poppy just as easily wiped it all away as shown above.
Cupcakes à la splode
A desert enjoyed by Rock Trolls, these cupcakes come with a fuse that when lit, causes a massive explosion of cake batter that can cover the sun.
Vinyl Records
Not only has Poppy shown great accuracy with throwing these as seen above, but they’re also quite sharp.
Tickle Grass
Tickle Grass well…tickles!
Hoverboard
A hoverboard given to Poppy by the Funk Trolls that allows her to fly in the sky. The hoverboards are shown to be able to shoot out beams that trap foes in bubbles.
Gummy Gloves
A pair of adhesive gloves that help Poppy to climb up surfaces.
Trolls Remix Rescue Power-Ups
Chili Pepper: Gives Poppy an extra speed boost
Invincibility Power-Up: Makes Poppy temporarily invulnerable to enemy attacks
Magnet: Attracts any nearby collectibles or items towards Poppy
Misc Equipment
Flashlight: A bit questionable why she needs this when her hair can glow in the dark but whatevs.
Baseball Bat: Mainly used for whacking piñatas, but of course bats can be turned into weapons.
Megaphones: She seems to carry quite a few on her.
Roller Skates: Good times.
Diving Helmet: Used to help Poppy breathe underwater.
Binoculars: Used to see things from far away…it’s a pair of binoculars what else were you expecting?
Blowtorch and Welding Mask: Used to cut wires.
Smurfette
Magic Sword
A magical sword given to Smurfette to fight off dangerous monsters that come her way. As seen above the sword is capable of smurfing beings from existence!
Pepper
A pack of pepper disguised as nose powder that Smurfette can blow into her foes eyes, blinding them.
Spring Flowers Perfume
Well, at least it worked.
Red Salt
A radical solution made by Papa Smurf that when sprinkled on others puts them to sleep.
Kindness Perfume
A magical perfume that makes evil or grumpy people nicer. It doesn’t work on those who are already kind-hearted.
Potions
Smurfette has utilized a variety of potions throughout the Smurfs games. These include:
The Smurfs Epic Run:
Magnet Potion: Attracts coins towards Smurfette.
Double Coins Potion: Turns coins silver, doubling their value.
Rainbow Potion: Fills all gaps with a rainbow bridge.
Invincibility Potion: Surrounds Smurfette with a green forcefield that makes her invulnerable, defeating enemies upon touch.
Heart Potion: Grants a floating heart that protects Smurfette from 1 hit.
Boost Potion: Causes Smurfette to dash through the air at blinding speeds.
Immortality Potion: Turns Smurfette into a King Smurf, inducing both the effects of the invincibility potion and the rainbow potion.
The Smurfs: Village Party:
Sleep Potion: Puts targets to sleep.
Shield Potion: Grants a shield that protects Smurfette from 1 hit.
Smurfs Touched:
Healing Potion: Recovers 10 HP.
Booster Potion: Increases attack power.
Lucky Charm Potion: We weren’t able to find out exactly what this one does, but it presumably increases luck.
Misc Potions:
Memory Restoration Potion: A potion that restores one’s memories by spraying on them.
Blue Potion: Seemingly turns Smurfette into a ghost, flying past other racers at high speeds.
Magic Dancing Shoes
A pair of magical shoes that enabled Smurfette to dance with incredible talent effortlessly; however, it also bound her to the imp that gave the shoes to her in exchange for her being his wife, making her unable to escape.
The shoes can only be removed through a spell that can then place them on someone else, though it’s unlikely Smurfette knows it
Smurf-Colored Glasses
A pair of glasses Handy made as a gift for Smurfette that make everything appear more charming. The effects of the glasses made Smurfette become smitten with Gargamel of all people.
Mallet
A tool that could be useful for giving opponents a good Smurf on the head.
Lasso
Smurfette has shown to be quite skilled with a lasso, being able to catch a runaway scarecrow or disarm foes.
Smurfmobile
Created by Handy as a "smurfless wagon" to eliminate the hard work in carrying wagons, including his very own, which looked mostly like a toolbox.
It resembled a somewhat primitive version of the automobile, with each of them specifically designed according to each Smurf's desires; Smurfette's looked like a log with flowers.
The Kaplowey Scroll
If you say Kaplowey, whatever you say it to, is smurfed (erased from existence), Smurfette used it to erase a cloud as seen above.
This also includes objects and people too. However, the word can also be used against the scroll itself, reversing it’s effects.
Hogatha’s Locket
For a brief time Smurfette had this locketlockdt, which could grant its user any wish. However, she was unaware of what she was doing at first and she eventually threw it away after seeing how much damage it could do, rendering it as optional equipment. But if you do give it to her, its abilities include:
Creation: Smurfette was able to wish for Greedy’s room to be filled with Flowers
Transmutation: Smurfette’s wish turned Greedy into a Violin
Size Manipulation/Empathetic Manipulation: Smurfette's wish caused Jokey to grow larger and become more “serious." It also made Grouchy upbeat and positive
Existence Erasure: Hogatha threatened to vanish Gargamel into thin air
Teleportation: Gargamel was able to instantly teleport the Smurfs to him
Magic Crystal
A talisman that has the power to teleport through time and space. When shattered, those within its vicinity are transported through time and across the world. The process can be reversed by finding every shard and putting the crystal back together.
Smurf Dolls
Dolls that can be collected to grant Smurfette extra lives.
Brainy’s Super Smurfy Power Fuel
A substance that was extracted from Hefty using Brainy’s Smurfy Thing Finder. While initially intended as a drink, it’s explosive properties make it better suited as a makeshift grenade. The explosion is strong enough to shake an entire cave.
Bow and Arrow
During her time in Smurfy Grove, Smurfette received some archery lessons from the Smurf Girls, being able to make 4 bullseyes in a row.
Hypno-Glasses
A pair of glasses that allow its wearer to hypnotize anyone they come into contact with to do their bidding.
While Papa Smurf currently owns them, Smurfette has used the Hypno-Glasses to hypnotize a bear that tried to attack her and Brainy and Gargamel into obeying the first thing he sees, which turns out to be his cat Azrael.
Smurfway
A wooden two-wheeled cycle used for quick transportation. While Brainy is the one most commonly seen riding it, other Smurfs (Including Smurfette) have borrowed it from him and Storm has been shown riding one as well, implying that multiple of these exist.
Smurf-Fu Stick
A staff Smurfette often uses when practicing Smurf-Fu. She’s shown to be quite skilled at wielding it.
Smurfizer
A machine created by Handy Smurf to fight against the Vileaf contamination. It consists of a sprayer and a tank for holding the flower that heals plants.
Over the course of the game, the Smurfizer gets upgraded to allow its user to sprint, briefly glide in the air, perform a ground pound attack, and suck up projectiles to shoot at enemies.
S.A.M. (Smurftronic Aerial Machine)
S.A.M. is another machine created by Handy to aid Smurfette in Mission Vileaf. It’s capable of flying, healing plants and using explosive seeds.
The disadvantage of S.A.M. is the fact that he cannot move too far away from Smurfette, the further it goes, a beeping sound will occur and it will return on the back of the given Smurf.
Smurfportation Crystal
A Smurfportation Crystal is a magical item that Papa Smurf created from water inside the Forbidden Falls from the last blue moon for the purpose of time travel.
Dragon Wand
Smurfette was gifted her own miniature version of Gargamel’s Dragon Wand for her birthday, and should be comparable to it, considering it’s powered by Smurf Essence. Abilities these wands shown include:
Age Manipulation: Gargamel did this
Energy Projection: Can fire blasts of lightning and physically grab others.
Transmutation: Gargamel turned his kit into metal and turned a man into a toad and a duck.
Weather Manipulation: Can create massive storms
Body Control/Levitation: Gargamel split a woman’s body into three parts and forced a crowd of people to bow down to him
Size Manipulation: Gargamel shrunk and enlarged Azrael
Technology Manipulation: Gargamel powered up a ferris wheel and Smurfette made it go faster
Summoning: Gargamel made a birthday cake out of thin air.
Life Manipulation: Gargamel made a stone Gargoyle come to life
Duplication: Smurfette duplicated crystals to make two more
Portal Creation: Gargamel created a portal to Smurf village.
Ice Manipulation: Gargamel covered a portal in a thick sheet of ice
The Smurfs 2 Video Game Power-Ups

Mushroom: Spawns smurfberries.
Hourglass: Freezes enemies in place, making them easier to defeat
Crown: Makes Smurfette temporarily invincible, defeating enemies upon touch
Red Crystal: Instantly kills every enemy on screen
Racing Power-Ups

Smurf Racer:
Firecrackers: Mushroom-shaped missiles that can be fired at other racers. Multiple of these can be carried at a time.
Red Rockets: Grant a quick speed boost.

Acorn: Bounces around the track, spinning out any racers it hits.
Queen Bee: Homes in on the racer in first place.
Leaf: Grants a quick speed boost.
Dirt Clump: Can be left behind as a trap, spinning out any racers who touch it.
Shazalakazoo: A horn that produces a soundwave which temporarily puts nearby racers to sleep.
Fireworks: Shoots out a bunch of firecrackers to rain down on other racers.
Bewitching Perfume: Smurfette’s special power-up; Causes any nearby racers fall in love with her for a period of time.
Heart Bomb
Exactly what it says on the tin; Heart Bombs blast in a giant heart-shaped explosion.

Forms
Poppy
Rainbow Poppy
Not much is really known about this form Poppy takes on at the end of Trolls: World Tour, however, from what we’ve gathered, it's just Poppy accepting all the music of the different genres within herself....I guess.
Smurfette
Dark Smurfette
Smurfette’s original state, while she fears turning back into this, normally the only way this can happen is by Gargmel, like in Smurfs: Dreams, where she could magically bring down lightning, though Smurfette doesn’t have to worry about turning into this on her own means, it requires specific circumstances.

Support
Poppy
Smidge
Believe it or not, as Poppy’s right hand Troll, Smidge is always within 10ft, watching Poppy’s every move.
Poppy once got fed up with it, but eventually came to realize she liked it after all. So one could definitely argue that Smidge is fair game.
Smidge is the strongest Troll in the village, making this even more scary, she should also be capable of the same Troll abilities as the others including Poppy as well.
Giant Spider
Despite being a threat to the village, from time to time, these creatures are willing to help Poppy, usually during a song.
Sheila Balloon
Sheila is a sentient hot air balloon that helps Poppy and friends on their journey in Trolls World Tour.
One time when Poppy pushed a random button on her, it caused her to zip around the entirety of Troll Kingdom in 3 seconds.
Rhonda
Rhonda is a Caterbus that belongs to John Dory, creatures who are not only good for transportation, but also for living in (yes, JD lives inside of Rhonda).
Usually she’s with JD, but after Rhonda licks and befriend’s Poppy, JD trusts Poppy enough to take care of her when he and Brozone are on tour.
Not only can Rhonda travel around really fast, when you press a button, Rhonda gains even more speed, enough speed to move so fast that she enters into another dimension, The Hustle Dimension.
Smurfette
Feathers
A stork that often helps the Smurfs travel to areas that would normally take too long on foot. Feathers can be called upon with a whistle.
Blue Eyes
Blue Eyes is a Pegasus that Smurfette forms a close friendship with. She’s the only one capable of seeing him.
As a gift for saving Blue Eyes, his mother gave Smurfette these magic words that can only be used three times (So far she’s used it once) to call upon him whenever she needs his help:
"Whenever you need a friend true blue, think of golden shoes and friendship true, then say, 'Blue Eyes, Blue Eyes, I need you'."
Blue Eyes was able to destroy the source of a massive storm that flooded the entire planet with a kick. He was also seemingly fast enough to fly out of the ensuing explosion.
Lucky
Lucky is Smurfette’s lucky star who grants her every wish. Selfish wishes put more strain on her and can cause her power to burn out. Because of this, Smurfette promised to never make another selfish wish ever again to keep Lucky happy. Lucky can help Smurfette out of a sticky situation by using her light to blind others.
Bucky
A Glow Bunny that Smurfette and the gang befriend on their journey through the Forbidden Forest. As his species’ name suggests, he can light up in the dark and is used as a mount for Smurfs.
Dragon
Smurfette has access to her own dragon in The Smurfs’ Village, which she can use to change into her Dragon Rider outfit. It also has the standard dragon abilities such as flight and fire breath.
Pixies
In Smurfs Epic Run, Smurfette can equip at least one of the following pixies which can aid her in some way:
Amethyst: Improves rainbow potion duration.
Vini: Gives sarsaparilla.
Snowleaf: Drops a double coins potion every 20s.
VineFilter: Gives sarsaparilla and energy.

Durability
Scaling
Poppy
Brozone (Basically Branch)
Despite being overall smarter and more tactically minded, Poppy has shown that she can get one over her boyfriend multiple times, outsmarting him and his heavily fortified bunker many a times, even on its most dangerous settings, and surprisingly despite Branch’s whole thing being defense, Poppy is the superior fighter, trained Branch in Hair-Jitsu, and is physically stronger than Branch, so she easily scales.
Branch and Creek create a constellation of Satin and Chenille (Multi-Solar System)
Branch hits the moon..twice (16:23) (21:23)
Branch reaches Poppy before the ultimate power chord can hit her
The Snack Pack (Basically mostly Smidge….she’s pretty strong)
While Smidge is overall physically stronger, Poppy has survived Smidge’s intensity many a times, and considering Poppy has the highest feat of power in the series, and is the Queen of Pop, Poppy should scale, as for the rest of the Snack Pack, they’re admittedly unique in their own way, but Poppy is overall just better than them.
Smidge breaks a jackhammer (3:30)
Smidge flips the pages of the Scrap Book Dimension (9:27) (....Possibly, Maybe, idk, might be Universal?)
Smidge lifts a large mushroom (17:03)
Satin and Chenille stop Poppy’s Pod from rolling off a cliff (19:45)
Smidge survives a massive water balloon falling on her and its resulting explosion (7:41, Multi-Continent+)
Collectively push a red carpet that was long enough to wrap around the planet 5 times
DJ dodges a laser beam (0.48 c, Relativistic)
Fuzzbert is a literally Kirby (Bro has a whole dimension inside him)
Tiny Diamond can seemingly pilot Rhonda in The Hustle Dimension
Cloud Guy and The Bergens
Yeah I don’t know how these Bergens ever managed to capture the Trolls, Trolls surprisingly have been shown outside the first movie to be able to take down Bergens, heck, Viva took down multiple of them on her own during the Great Escape!
As for Cloud Guy, this jerk, may be able to outsmart Branch from time to time, but whenever Branch gets his hands on him, or gets really angry, he can hurt Cloud Guy, even Cloud Guy realizes this, as there's been times he will actively run away from an extremely angry Branch, so Poppy should scale.
Cloud Guy creates a storm so powerful, it could wipe out Troll Village
Cloud Guy fixes a rainbow (21:43)
Cloud Guy has what appears to be a realm with a moon and multiple stars inside him (Solar System)
The Other Troll Tribes
As the Queen of Pop, Poppy should scale to other Trolls, including the other Royals, and her Rainbow Form backs this up.
Val smashes a tomato, causing an explosion that covers both the entire planet and moon in tomato juice (Multi-Continent)
Val runs off, makes an apology card and then comes back in 1 second
Val survives the shockwave Poppy made that moved planets (Solar System)
Combined the Trolls can create a rainbow colored eruption that comes out of a volcano
Various others
John Dory’s catterbus, Rhonda, is able to move fast enough to enter the Hussle Dimension by a press of a button. (Possibly immeasurable)
Viva jumps on stars and can manipulate a bunch of them to make rainbow like energy explosion
Smurfette
The Smurfs
Smurfs are naturally comparable to each other, and Smurfette is a pretty special Smurf, she should scale to the other members of her kind.
There no way around this…..Papa Smurf’s past self hit his future self with a snowball (Immeasurable Smurfs was not on my 2024 bingo card)
Smurf Magic can travel backwards and forward through time (See Before the Verdict)
Painter Smurf painted an entire comic book (Infinite)
Hefty, Greedy and Lazy survive an explosion in Gargamel’s hovel unharmed
Smurfs can catch stars and turn them into constellations (MFTL+)
They made tons of them (Multi-Solar System)
Gargamel
Smurfette has shown to physically hurt Gargamel and outsmart him, plus she was able to nullify his Grand Wizard form, even if it cost her life for a bit, that’s still reasonably impressive, at the very least she should downscale if not outright scale, which I do believe she does.
Created a massive storm with his dragon wand (Small Town-Small City)
Survives the destruction of the Mirror World (High Universal)
Manipulated and warped the dream world (Multi-Solar System)
Weaknesses
Poppy
Poppy is surprisingly stronger than she looks, given what we’ve been through, and she’s certainly grown since the first movie. However, she is not perfect.
She is still prone to diving into situations without thinking things through, and in the shows has demonstrated from time to time to be extremely cocky when things are looking good so far.
As stated earlier, Trolls, no matter the genre need their Talent to survive, it is their essence, if completely drained, they will die, now for your average Troll, that takes months, and Poppy being the Queen of Pop, and possibly having all the genres inside of her means that she has a lot more talent than most Trolls, meaning that this isn't a huge issue for her.
When Trolls put too much strain on their hair, they can end up getting ”hair fracture”, a condition that makes their hair unusable until it heals.
However, what’s Poppy’s biggest weakness you may ask…it’s her extreme reluctance (borderline refusal) to fight. Trolls, or at least Pop Trolls by nature aren’t fighters, they’re whimsical creatures who can’t stop moving, and prefer to solve all their conflicts with singing, dancing, hugging, and…uh, glitter.
Poppy being the worst of them, in the movies, she wont fight, at all. The closest she got was strangling Creek, and that was outta anger for selling out their people to die, which is understandable.
This is somewhat mitigated with the inclusion of the shows and Remix Rescue, as shown earlier with Hair-Jitsu, Poppy has relatively no problem with throwing hands with the creatures of the forest, but when it comes to others, that reluctance in the films, while somewhat mitigated, is still for the most part there. We won't hold it against her in the context of the rules of Death Battle, but it should be noted.
Smurfette
Smurfette has consistently shown to be one of the more competent Smurfs in the village, but she’s not without her faults either.
Smurfette has struggled with self-doubt, and whether she is a true Smurf or if she will devolve back to her original self, though she’s had two films to overcome this.
As stated before Smurfette’s biology leaves her susceptible to spells that can revert her back to a lifeless lump of clay, and can only be revived through the essence of other Smurfs which would require outside help.
Smurfette has also shown to be quite impulsive at times, the biggest example being when she kept getting into bets with Storm, which escalated into her not just betting away stuff that wasn’t even hers, but also the entire village.
Before the Verdict
UNIVERSAL TROLLS?!!
Yeahhhhhhhhh, let's talk about this. Let’s start with the somewhat easier of the two feats, Smidge’s feat in the Scrapbook dimension. The Scrapbook Dimension, is a universe where everything is a scrapbook created by Keith.
There is no discussion on how big this dimension is, it must have a limit since it’s all based on what Keith makes in the scrapbook, but we do know that it is a universe, and Smidge just…flips the pages. There are probably a lot of ways to interpret that feat, 4th wall/dimensional travel, etc. We’ll leave it up to everyone in the verdicts to decide how they want to look at this feat.
Now let's talk about the big one, The Hustle Dimension. Trolls Band Together doesn’t really explain anything about what this dimension is, all we know is that it's a dimension that Rhonda enters to gain more speed, or y’know “more hustle” (More on this later).
Like The Scrapbook Dimension, it's also described as a universe in the Multiverse (yes Trolls has Cosmology, and no, no one scales to it), what's weird is that in TBT it's a universe Rhonda has to enter into by running fast, in the short where the feat is present, it's inside her.
Regardless it is a universe, and by the looks of it, is maybe even bigger than the Scrapbook Dimension. And in the short, It Takes Three, Poppy, Viva, and Tiny Diamond restart the dimension by just harmonizing and singing. Now admittedly, Tiny was doing most of the work, but like ...Tiny's a baby and Poppy and Viva were having more fun listening to his song.
They even escape the dimension on their own by bouncing off a letter in the dimension and flying so fast that they escape….which also might give more fuel to the immeasurable argument….speaking of which
Immeasurable Trolls?!!
Okay we’ve seen mixed opinions on this, simply put by gaining enough speed Rhonda was able to run so fast that she entered into another dimension, The Hustle Dimension, which the only thing we know so far about it, is that it's a dimension full of…”hustle”.
Even crazier, Poppy and Brozone fused into Hustle Man, and flew with enough speed to exit it, and later on, without Hustle Man, Poppy and Viva could pull this off on their own.
I don’t particularly know how to calculate someone moving from one dimension to another, and I do admit that I’m not 100% on my knowledge on the difference between infinite and immeasurable speed (tbh it sounds the same to me lol), and more so if it is calculable I don’t even know how to go about that.
I mean I looked it up, and apparently with current scientific knowledge, that’s impossible to calculate ? Like with the Uni Trolls stuff we’ll leave it up to everyone in the verdicts to make their own decisions on that.
Immeasurable/Infinite Smurfs?
Before I go on, anything said in this section is a SonallyKingKataang, thoughts and opinion, not Nario’s. Nario has been an excellent help with this blog, and carried the Smurfs side of the research hard, he’s a trooper. Without him this blog couldn’t be made, and I thank him for it, so if you want to go at anyone for this next section, go at me, not him.
Now then I got some reservations about the immeasurable stuff, let's start with the Smurf Magic part. The Smurfportation Crystals can travel through time as said above, however, Papa made those through the water he gathered from the last blue moon (21:27), normally speaking Smurfs can’t just move through time. Their essence is very powerful and can grant Wizards great power, but Smurf essence is just their essence, its magical in nature, but Papa’s not using Smurf Essence to create this stuff, it's just magic used by everyone including Smurfs, magic is magic in the Smurfs world, anybody could have made those crystals as long as they had the water.
To say “Smurf Magic” as a whole is immeasurable because Papa was able to smurf some crystals from water that can create portals through time is kinda weird to me, especially when Papa had to make enough, or else they would have been trapped in the future. Now Gargamel through his wand was powerful enough to make a portal back to Smurf Village, which is in the past, but that's not speed, that's power/portal creation.
As for the Papa Smurf feat, I have a little less issues with this one compared to the Smurfportation Crystal, I understand 4th wall stuff can get crazy, and yeah he just straight up hits his future self with a snowball, he physically does it too, his past self looks back and is confused on what hit him. Now part of me still thinks this is 4th wall shenanigans, you can’t really quantify that type of stuff, and I’m not just talking Smurfs, Trolls as well, as seen above with the Smidge feat, as I've talked with others since then, that's how I’ve come to interpret that feat and the Papa feat, a gag, one made through physical means, but still just 4th wall stuff.
Like I see it as Past Papa is able to see the next panel, Papa decides to be funny and throws it at him, Future Papa actually looks back and is confused, he doesn’t see what hits him, which is weird, cause like Future Papa should know he threw that snowball in the past, he shouldn’t be confused, right. Seems to me this is just 4th wall stuff, including the Smidge feat, but for both Smurfs and Trolls, I still intend to leave them up to viewer interpretation, but that's just my two cents.
As for the Painter Smurf, and if that's infinite speed (don’t really know the difference between infinite and immeasurable, you can’t plug infinity into a calculator last I checked), he painted the entire canvas, which by his own words he says “an artist canvas is infinite”, one could argue that’s just a statement he made commenting on his love for art, or infinite in how much potential/ideas an artist has or, but ehhh, i guess it's fine Though he didn’t do it in one go, bro got tired and had to go on lunch break before finishing, again, i’ll leave it to interpretation, but yeah that's just my two cents, I’m probably wrong, but eh, just wanted to state what I’m thinking.
Btw this is not a critique of FMTT, I just had a disagreement with one argument he made in his blog, his Crocker vs Gargamel blog is fantastic work, and so was his Finn and Jake vs Mordo and Rigs blog.
I’m willing to ignore my disagreements all to maintain The Papa Smurf beats Olimar agenda…
Verdicts
(LMAOOOO)
For Verdicts, this time, we’re going to be doing things a little differently.
I, SonallyKingKataang will be representing Poppy, and presenting my reasons as to why she should win. Nario will be representing Smurfette and why she should take the W.
Then we will allow those who we invited to base their votes off of everything in the blog, and our verdicts, basing their votes off who was more convincing of us two.
With that being, ready to wrap this up Nario?
Let us begin!
Team Poppy
Okay so there's obviously a lot to break down with a matchup like Poppy vs Smurfette. These two have tons of stuff to work with. I obviously knew Smurfette would have quite a bit to look over, but Poppy surprised me with just how much she would have.
I think it's safe to say that Poppy, with just under 10 years worth of material, has caught up to Smurfette’s sixty. I’m going to admit this off the bat ....I'm sure most people are going to vote Smurfette, not because of familiarity, but because her arguments for winning are a bit more straightforward, and a lot easier to argue.
My defense for Poppy is not as straightforward. However, strangely enough, despite all that, I’m confident that I can make some good, even great arguments for why Poppy should win.
For you see, while my arguments are not as straightforward, I think they are still good, at least in my opinion. Just because one argument may be a bit more easy to argue, doesn’t mean the others are any less valuable, so join me on this expedition, as we finish up the craziness that is Poppy vs Smurfette.
For this fight, there are six categories that are the most representative of a fight of this nature:
Stats
Experience
Abilities
Arsenal
Support
And Smarts
There is surprisingly a lot to cover, so let's get to it, starting off with
Okay I’m just gonna get this one part of the stats argument out the way ....I don’t have a clear answer whether Poppy and Rhonda’s whole thing is immeasurable or not. We did look this up, and there were a variety of answers coming from whether traveling to and from another dimension through speed was immeasurable or not. Some said no, others said it was just infinite, others said it was, and some said it depends.
As for Smurfs, I find the immeasurable stuff to be really shaky once you really look into it, especially with The Smurfporation Crystals. The Painter Smurf thing also can be considered sketchy with some interpretation of what he meant, “A Artist Canvas is infinite”, could mean a variety of things, including meaning that Painter Smurfs canvas just has an infinite amount of potential in how much potential/ideas an artist has.
For the purposes of this blog, while I don’t buy anything higher than MFL for both, I’ll show leeway for both, I’m just going to consider both equal. We are open to correction, for future blogs, but for today, they are both equal in speed.
Now let’s look at power. I’m not gonna undersell Smurfette by any means, she’s a pretty strong Smurf, cutting through logs, beating up a giant Snake, and defeating Great Wizard Gargamel is pretty impressive, no doubt.
But like, Poppy is just way more impressive on a visual standpoint and has much higher showings of power. Moving clouds, causing massive explosions, holding stars, STRUMMING A GUITAR SO HARD THAT SHE BLEW AWAY MULTIPLE PLANETS, is just a bit more impressive, wouldn’t you agree?
Thankfully for Smurfette, scaling exists, she scales to Smurfs shaking mountains, turning the moon blue, creating constellations, etc. With this stuff Smurfette is now in the same range as Poppy, and being able to hurt Gargamel consistently, and nullifying his Great Wizard Form, means Smurfette can scale to Gargemal surviving the Mirror World’s destruction. I don’t think Smurfette can destroy a universe, but I do think this means she is tough enough to take that kind of damage, through scaling.
The Mirror World feat alone would make Smurfette durable enough to tank anything Poppy throws at her right???
Wellll, Poppy’s no glass canon, she’s been hit by firecrackers, various monsters, being eaten and smurfed out, being zapped by powerful electricity, and surviving being in a rainbow tornado.
Poppy gets a fair bit of good durability feats through scaling too, like Branch being launched into the moon and back, and Val surviving the same strumming attack that knocked away those planets. Alongside, Viva being able to jump, control, and ride on stars herself.
Furthermore, while one can look at the Smidge feat in a variety of ways, The Hustle Dimension feat is in my opinion, Universal. It’s appearance’s has been different between the show and mini short, in the short its implied to be inside Rhonda, compared to in the movie where it was a thing separate from Rhonda, regardless, its stated to be a universe inside the Trolls Multiverse, and no other media suggest its size, other than that.
Universal Trolls is fine in my opinion.
This means that while Poppy can dish out a bit more power, Smurfette, through scaling, is tough enough to take it. Though I would argue that Poppy is physically superior even with scaling.
This section is a tie.
When it comes to experience, both have been on tons of adventures, ranging from large to small scale. You would expect Smurfette to handily take it, due to her 60+ year history compared to Poppy’s measly 9, however, it’s not as bad as you think.
Poppy has been on tons of adventures, ranging from local adventures in Troll Village, to more grand scale adventures, ranging from globally-traveling to many different universes in the multiverse.
Both have seen tons of dangers in their forest, as both are riddled with dangerous creatures and plants, moreso, while both are masters of their respective species martial arts, Poppy has been training her whole life, which is much longer than Smurfette, whose only began her martial arts career only recently. Poppy in universe for both is older, like 20 years + older.
I guess you could say Smurfette has seen magic used on a crazier scale, but despite the years worth of content, I wouldn’t say Smurfette has a clear edge in this regards, as both have seen their fair share, Poppy is a much more experienced martial artist and is older.
I’d say Poppy takes this one.
Alright this is where the fun begins! Both have tons of abilities, as a Smurf, Smurfette can be equated to other Smurfs who have been shown being able to interact with ghosts, their reflection, and even literally eating a piece of cake from a painting.
She can float in the air, move at great speeds, and bubble her foes. Smurf-Fu is a powerful martial art, allowing her to defeat a giant snake (well giant compared to her) with ease, and The Smurfy Scream can stagger her foes.
Energy Absorption allows Smurfette to smurf away the energy from Brainy’s machine, resist the effects of Gargamel Freeze Ball’s, and completely smurf Gargamel’s magic, nullifying his power and returning the essence back to the Smurfs.
Most devastatingly, The Smurfy Touch allows the user of the spell to turn anything he or she touches into whatever the user desires, in Smurfette’s case, Smurfberry candy.
With all that said, Poppy just has way, way, way more to offer when it comes to her powers. Most of Smurfette’s insane hax, as we will discuss later, comes from her equipment.
Poppy has a significant edge in having access to the majority of her abilities at all times, Smurfette can do some crazy stuff, but most of it is only across different wands, lockets, and items. Poppy is more all-natural; she's got all her best powers built in, and she ain't even a robot. Meaning she wins the war of attrition.
Let’s start with the “simplest one”, Hair Manipulation, Troll’s can practically create anything they want with their hair, stretch their hair to the moon, blend in and camouflage with their environment, giving Poppy multiple ways to avoid and overwhelm Smurfette.
Hair Fractures are a thing, but in context, Poppy’s own case came after weeks of over preparing for a party, and eventually lifting something heavy after overtaxing her hair, something like this is not really gonna come to play in a battle like this, especially when Trolls have gone days using their hair in a variety of ways and were fine, speaking of which, Poppy endurance should be leagues above Smurfette, Trolls can party from day to night, and at best can keep functioning for a whole week before crashing out.
Poppy can control, manipulate, and create electricity allowing her to fire it off at her foes, while Smurfette can float, Poppy can fly, giving her battlefield control, and allowing her to avoid attacks from Smurfette.
She too can boost her speed with glitter, become intangible and phase through any and all attacks from Smurfette and her items, more on that later. She can transmute Smurfette, and unlike Smurfette she doesn’t need a spell to do so.
She can also come back from being transmuted. (Not to mention The Smurfy Touch would backfire on Smurfette, transmuting many of her own items, including her best one, as she needed outside help to be rid of The Smurfy Touch.)
(ALT SCENARIOS BY SONICTDFW)
Teleportation, allowing her even more options for battlefield control, and allowing her to surprise or get sneak attacks on Smurfette, something Poppy is willing to do, she’ll be dirty if she has too. Poppy also has Telekinesis, which you could argue would allow her to steal Smurfette’s equipment.
She can duplicate and make clones of herself, this can be used to confuse and overwhelm Smurfette, it also acts as a good counter to one of Smurfette’s best items, more on that later. Poppy has made two, but as we can see with Creek and Branch, she can make as many as she wants, either just by moving fast enough or just ....them appearing next to her.
Trolls can immerse themselves in paintings, and Poppy was able to physically move clouds and wave away darkness, manipulate and create colors, and turn night into day.
While Smurf-Fu is cool, Hair-Jitsu is just better fundamentally, it has a better foundation, Hair-Jitsu takes the Trolls' hair to the next lvl, combining their hair’s limitless capabilities of imagination with hand-to-hand combat.
Hair-Jitsu is not about speed, it's about slowing down and finding your moment. It requires patience and letting your enemy’s attack come for you. Smurf-Fu, at least when Smurfette uses it, seems to be a combination of power and speed, Hair-Jitsu explicitly takes advantage of that fact, and I mean come on The Hairball-duken move, like that's just way past cool.
Tho funny thing, Trolls hair, has actually been categorized as magic, so one could argue Smurfette could….absorb Poppy’s hair, well maybe not the hair, but the Hairball-duken, tho she can only do it so many times before she turns into clay again, which if Poppy wanted to be funny, she could just repeatedly spam it till Smurfette dies….that's a cheap argument to make but ay I’m trying to convince you why Poppy wins.
Speaking of hair, it also acts as a hammerspace, allowing them to pull out all their equipment inside of them, giving Poppy easier access to her equipment then Smurfette, while both do have a hammerspace, Poppy’s hammerspace being in her makes it much easier to pull out compared to Smurfette’s.
Smurfette could try to absorb Poppy’s Talent, but like, Poppy has a lot of Talent, like tons of it, especially after accepting all the musical genre within her, one normal Troll can go months before they die of Talent draining, as seen with Branch’s Brother. Smurfette could attempt to drain it all at once, but that would just kill both of them, and that’s not even a sure thing to happen, as a lesser Troll was able to survive being completely drained and bouncing back.
Then there's the big one’s, Broadway Force and Freeze Tag. Broadway Force is nuts, Trolls have some of the most broken Broadway Force’s I’ve ever seen, this stuff is an acid trip, we tried to explain some of the stuff we could make sense of in this state, but in the end how can I explain Branch pulling apart…..the screen…..or himself….to reveal a separate location completely different from the location he was in when he started the song, with Creeks face being the sun?????
And I know what you're thinking, SonallyKingKataang, couldn’t Smurfette just not participate in the song? Oh you ain’t gotta sing, characters like Branch and Archer show this, but you still gonna be a part of the song regardless. So yeah, this mess is broken. And if you don’t think Poppy wouldn’t start singing in the middle of a fight, then you don’t know Poppy, she totally would.
And then Freeze Tag, yeah that's just, what can Smurfette do about that, Poppy doesn’t even gotta touch her if she doesn’t want to, she could just say stop, and that’s it.
I’m not trying to downplay Smurfette, Smurfette, and just Smurfs in general are packing some cool abilities, but Trolls just simply come in with better abilities built into themselves, with a lot more to throw at their foes, to the point it utterly baffles me how The Bergens were able to contain these little monsters.
Poppy takes Abilities.
This is the biggest part of the debate. These two have so many items, so much equipment that both could throw at the other, and a lot of tools that could one-shot the other. What makes both even more devastating is that Poppy and Smurfette don’t have many game changing resistances to haxes.
Poppy more so than Smurfette, but not a massive enough advantage in this case. Both have fallen prey to stuff like mind control multiple times in the past. Now when it comes to who has more items that could one shot the other, while Poppy might have a more versatile set of items, Smurfette slightly less versatile set of items, has more devastating capabilities.
Though as said earlier, due to the hammerspace in her hair, Poppy will always have easier access to her items. You’ll see through my argument that abilities will overlap with the items section, you’ll see why. I’m going to break down all of Smurfette’s most insane items and see if Poppy has any counters, bare with me folks this gonna be a lot. Also I will be honest with any item I don’t think Poppy can counter.
Smurfette Items
Pepper: Smurfette has pepper disguised as powder that can blind foes, but Poppy has glitter that can do the same, both cancel out.
Magic Sword: This sword is actually able to smurf beings from existence, pretty devastating. Does Poppy have a counter? Well, not to existence erasure, no, but she has options to avoid this. She has a shield to block this sword, go intangible and phase though the sword completely negating the physical strike from it, teleport away from it, or just telekinetically steal it.
Red Salt: This puts anyone to sleep, Poppy could, uhhh, fly away?
Kindness Perfume: Easy one, Poppy is already an incredibly kind person, wouldn’t affect her.
Smurf Mobile: Poppy has a lot more options of transportation, with even greater capabilities than Smurfette’s standard Kart.
Kaplowey: Okay, an incredibly dangerous win con for Smurfette, just by pointing and saying Kaplowey, something’s getting smurfed from existence, whether it be objects or people. This is a more straightforward way of existence erasure compared to the Sword, can Poppy counter this? I think so, there’s two arguments one could make here, the easiest being, well canonically the scroll which gives this word its power, doesn’t exist anymore, making it questionable if this should be granted. The second being Poppy’s clones, she can make as many as she wants, evading Kaplowey, by the fact that Smurfette could point at the wrong Poppy, erasing the clone and not Poppy herself, and Poppy can continually do this, Poppy’s smart, say that Smurfette erases her blimp with Kaplowey, Poppy would know to evade this any way she can, either through her clones, or just camouflaging with her hair, moreso, Poppy could just copy Smurfette, and use Kaplowey herself, anyone can use it, it's not limited to Smurfs, and Poppy picks up on things quickly.
Hogatha’s Locket/Dragon Wand: These are the two big one’s and I’m knocking them out back to back, Hogatha’s Locket is very questionable, when Smurfette had it she wasn’t even aware of its effects and the chaos it was causing around her, she eventually got rid of it, Gargemel got it, and then Papa destroyed it, I don’t think Smurfette should get it. The Dragon Wand tho, yeah Smurfette should get it, she kept the thing by the end of the movie. As for if Poppy resit or even counter the effects of both items, she has some resistances, both have Transmutation, but that won't work on Poppy, The Wand could possibly disable Poppy’s tech since Gargamel’s own could mess with a Ferris Wheel, Duplication could allow her to keep up with Poppy’s own clones if she duplicated herself, tho she never has, but it is an argument one could make. Their are other abilities they both have that Poppy has no answer for, buttttt, Poppy can fly, unlike Smurfette allowing her to evade them, alongside her teleportation, now The Locket was able to transport Smurfs to Gargamel, but again, I don’t think Smurfette should get the Locket, Gargamel wand could make portals in time, but that required quite a bit of essence and power to do so compared to the two drop Smurfette got in her wand, but, eh, and I’ll Chance Time it and say Poppy can just steal both with Telekinesis, you could say I’m jumping through hoops, but dang it, I’m trying to win!
Smurfporation Crystal: Made from the waters inside Forbidden Falls, Smurfette’s just not going to be carrying this stuff, Papa had to make e’m, and in the context of the films, Smurfette and the others already used up all the ones Papa made. Now you could say she could duplicate them with the wand like in the movies, but again, that required Smurfportaion Crystals already on hand, though Gargamal did summon a birthday cake from thin air, so maybe she could, but would Smurfette really be thinking of Smurfporation Crystals in the middle of a fight, that's a very specific thing.
Hypno-Glasses: Now Poppy doesn’t have specific resistance against these, however, The Star Maker could make those who gaze upon it to force them to dance, I guess this just comes down to who pulls out their item first.
Immortality Potion: This is a good one for Smurfette, and would prevent her from dying, but I'd say Magnet would be a good way to counter it by stealing it, tho Smurfette has a similar item that may counter that. Even if Smurfette does get it, Freeze Tag and Transmutation are still viable ways of putting Smurfette down despite being immortal.
Magic Crystals: These are a bit too vague, they say they take those in its vicinity through time and space, however in the game that just means to other continents across the world, not specifically forward and backward through time…don’t see how helpful these two can be.
Game Items: Both have items such as temporary invincibility, tho through her explorer outfit Smurfette can gain permanent invincibility, they both have magnets to help draw in items so that cancels out, Hearts could slow down opponents but Chili Peppers grants extra speed. Hourglass can freeze enemies in place but Poppy has that ability built in, and doesn’t need an item to pull this off, Crown can make Smurfette invincible and defeat enemies with a touch but again Poppy can just go intangible. Red Crystal is a screen nuke that kills enemies, but would that really affect someone who is an equal in ap and durability? Other game items like Rings and Pixes for the most part, are only helpful in the context of the games of which they originate.
Smurf Doll: Freeze Tag and Funk Troll Remote (we’ll get to that) gg’s.
That’s it for Smurfette’s best items, and my attempts to argue if Poppy can counter or resist them. The only item I couldn’t think of a counter would be the Bewitching Perfume, outside of flying or teleporting away from it. That’s quite a bit, huh? As for Poppy’s side, does she have any good items that could give Smurfette trouble, well
Poppy’s items
Hug-Time Bracelet: Hug Time can heal Trolls, negating any damage Poppy takes in battle, send out a wave of energy, and even activate magical objects, though I wouldn’t use that last one against Smurfette.
Invitations: That's just funny, Smurfs, including Smurfette have consistently fell for Jokey’s gift boxes, Smurfette would definitely fall for this and Cupcakes à La Splode, and Poppy’s own Prank Box, I’m serious this girl is just a smarter female Jokey Smurf.
Tickle Grass: As it sounds, Poppy could use this as a distraction against Smurfette.
Hoverboards: Poppy can fly on her own sure, but these things shoot out beams that trap foes in bubbles, or Poppy can just blow bubbles for the same effect.
Potions: Poppy does have potions that can make you sick, tho they need to be ingested, her other potion which increases strength would be more effective for her.
Rock Guitar: This could match Smurfette’s Dragon Wands magical lightning, and if Poppy strums hard enough, while it won't kill Smurfette given the stats, it would knock her back.
Switcher-Ruby: Yeah it could allow Poppy to switch bodies with Smurfette, but, not only does it require both to touch it, it takes a whole day to recharge, and if Smurfette dies in Poppy’s body that….would be bad for Poppy, I mean it is an option, but I doubt she’d want to do that.
Funk Tech Remote: This is prolly Poppy’s best item bar-non, these can open up wormholes to other dimensions of the user choosing, and create a vacuum effect sucking things in, there are multiple creative ways Poppy can use this in battle, like hiding in other dimension, using these to confuse and get attacks in on Smurfette or stealing her items, yes this again!, or just simply getting rid of Smurfette, like what’s stopping Poppy from using her Freeze Tag ability and just hauling Smurfette’s body through a wormhole?
And their we go, that's all their items, while Smurfette has devastating items that could easily give her the win, Poppy does have ways to deal with some of Smurfette’s best stuff like stealing her items, i’m sorry, not to mention the sheer versatility that she has, and having easier ways to get her best items due to her hair, and just having more to throw at Smurfette, it helps that while both don’t have a ton of resistances, Poppy has more, specifically being able to resist transmutation, and her previous quantity of abilities help give her options to dealing with Smurfette’s equipment.
An easier section to go over, Blue Eyes is cool and could help deal with Poppy’s flight, but as said earlier Poppy has her own ways of transportation not just on the ground but in the air too, Sheila does with Blue Eyes can do too by getting Poppy around in the air. Though Blue Eye’s is pretty strong in his own right.
There’s also Rhonda and the craziness that comes with her, Lucky is actually very impressive, being able to make wishes in such, however, Smurfette specifically said she’d never make a selfish wish again cause of the fact that it would hurt Lucky, and using Lucky to win a fight would go against her promise, also Lucky appeared in only one episode, so yeah.
The dragon is cool, but while we haven't really mentioned it, Poppy has received help from the creatures of the forest, like the spider, and many more, so in that regards if included Poppy takes the numbers advantage.
And then there’s Smidge
Smidge is fair game in my opinion, as Poppy’s right hand Troll, she’s always within 10ft of Poppy, and will do anything to protect her. She’s the strongest Troll in the village, and is capable of the same abilities as Poppy. Just imagine multiple Poppy and Smidge clones at the same time.
Smidge is a huge boon for Poppy if support is allowed for both, this gives Poppy even more time to plan things out, Smidge is a great distraction/support for her.
This section is the biggest reason why I’m going to side Poppy, let me just say this now. Smurfette is not dumb, she’s pretty smart and can be clever in her own right. Smurfette is able to get the Smurfs to work together when she needs to, and has outsmarted the likes of Gargamel, Papa has even praised her for this. She's no dummy, she’s smart and I want to make that very clear.
But Poppy is just on another level, Smurfette can get Smurfs to work together when she needs to, Poppy has to do that with Trolls everyday, since she’s Queen. Smurfette is clever and able to trick Gargamel, but Poppy is able to outwit and outsmart the likes of Branch, Branch has spent his whole life in preparation of defense against Bergans and other dangerous creatures, not to mention he built a heavily fortified bunker fit with all different traps and weaponry, and he did this at five years old, and Poppy has broken into it multiple times, including on its most dangerous setting.
Branch has the brains (and arrogance) of Brainy and Handy combined! And Gargamel…..isn’t dumb per-say, but c’mon it's Gargamel. Not to mention, Poppy is pretty clever and quite the trickster, as mentioned earlier Smurfs have fallen for Jokey’s prank box repeatedly, despite the fact that they’ve seen that same joke multiple times.
Poppy also picks up on things quickly, she remembers everyone in her village names, heck, Branch mentioned that he told Poppy about his lost toy crocodile once, in passing, she remembered it, and later found the croc in the escape tunnels and got it back to Branch, not to mention seeing Hickory use The Gumdrop Trick once, and used it herself to trick Barb.
Poppy is also great at thinking ahead, like with the Prank Day episode, or or when confronting Chaz on whether or not he was mind controlling the village, Poppy planned ahead by bringing a gift box with Keith inside, knowing that children were immune to his mind control, allowing Keith to stop Chaz and save the day.
Poppy has her issues, she can be a bit naive at times, and a bit arrogant and cocky, and a little too optimistic, but she's amazingly smart, astonishingly so. Smurfette is too, don’t get me wrong, but when you look at it, there’s clearly one that has a massive edge in this field.
Conclusion
In the end, Smurfette is smart in her own right, has her own interesting abilities, and her items can one-shot Poppy if given the chance. But Poppy’s greater abilities, numerous and more versatile items, better and more reliable support, and overwhelming smarts, should more times than not, give her the win. Smurfette smurfed up a good fight, and she could definitely knock her opponent over, but as always, Poppy will keep getting back up again!
Hey! I’m not giving up today, there’s nothing getting in my way, and if you knock, knock me over, I WILL GET BACK UP AGAIN!
Advantages:
Physically stronger
Better and overall more showings of power and speed
More useful inherent abilities (I’m sorry for the many BowEgg references made in this blog)
Freeze Tag is an insta win
Broadway Force….GG
Funk Technology Remote could BFR Smurfette
Has ways around Smurfette best items
More useful resistances than Smurfette
Smidge….oh and I guess her other support too, but let's be real Smidge carries
Hair-Jitsu>Smurf-Fu
More experienced
TELEKINESIS GO BRRRR
Way smarter and overall more clever
A good girlfriend and great friend
Trolls Movies>Smurf Movies (I had to rewatch Smurfs 1 and 2 for this, Lost Village was good tho, and that new trailer was terrible)
No Influencer Troll
Equal:
Equal in AP
Equal in speed if you buy infinite-immeasurable for both….
Both have multiple items that could one shot the others….
Disadvantages:
….Tho maybe not equal or faster in speed depending on how you look at Rhonda and The Hustle Dimension/Infinite-Immeasurable Smurfs/Trolls
….Smurfette has more one-shot items
Hair-duken could possibly be absorbed by Smurfette, at least for a time
Trolls The Beat Goes On Poppy (WYDM she’s gonna let the guy who sold out their entire people to be eaten to save his own skin back into the village, and wdym she’s gonna be mad at Branch for not trusting him making him sing an apology song to said guy)
Team Smurfette
Hey everyone, Nario here and today I’ll be representing Smurfette.
First off, I’d like to say that I’ve really come to love this matchup over the past year. It just sounds like such a fun and unique MU to me and has tons of potential as an episode (Let’s be real, a musical Death Battle would be peak). Also I have some personal connection with the MU since I grew up with The Smurfs and it helped me get more into the Trolls franchise.
Second, I wanna make it clear that this is my first ever time working on a blog. So I’m not as experienced with this type of thing. Despite that, I feel confident in being able to present my arguments as to why I think Smurfette wins this.
I’ll be taking a more straightforward approach in terms of categories:
Stats
Abilities
Arsenal
Tertiary Factors
With all that said and done, let’s get this show on the road
Stats
Starting with power, at lower ends Poppy can scale to Val’s tomato explosion and Smidge tanking the water balloon explosion, both of which get Multi-Continental. Smurfette, being a Smurf herself, should easily scale to Smurf magic turning the moon blue which gets Small Planet.
Then with mid ends, both have consistent SS-MSS scaling, like Poppy being able to knock back multiple planets with a guitar strum (And Val directly tanking it), Cloud Guy having a realm with multiple stars inside himself, and Branch and Creek creating a constellation of Satin and Chenille during a musical number. For Smurfette, Smurfs can catch stars to create constellations, Gargamel was able to warp the dream world which has many stars within it, and Protagonist Smurf being able to match and even overpower him. So they’re roughly equal here.
But then we have the Universal arguments; Poppy, Viva, and Tiny Diamond restarting the Hustle Dimension and Gargamel surviving the destruction of the Mirror World. Do I buy em? Starting off with the Mirror World feat; I do since as it’s name implies it’s a direct mirroring of the Smurfs world. And since Smurfette has fought against and harmed Gargamel on several occasions, she can reasonably scale to it.
As for the Hustle Dimension, It would be easy to assume that it’s just like the dimensions the Trolls travel to through wormholes in the shows, but they’re not quite the same. Whereas those are shown to be parallel universes that mimic the Trolls world but with some changes, The Hustle Dimension is actually a pocket dimension inside of Rhonda. And both times we’ve seen it, there’s never been any real statements or evidence that prove it’s universal in size. At most, it does contain a few planets and dozens of stars in the background, which would make it Multi-Solar System. So it does further add consistency to MSS Poppy, but it doesn’t quite stack up to the High Uni scaling Smurfette gets.
Also something I just wanna mention real quick, but the whole thing with the disco balls from Star Maker being actual stars seems a little stretchy to me. It’s based on DJ’s statement “The disco ball is just a star”, but she could just be referring to the figurative term or how the disco ball shines like a star. Heck, the Smurfs have more solid arguments for star lifting feats like Lucky being a star that fell out of the sky and Gargamel being able to casually pick her up or the previously mentioned Smurfs catching stars to create constellations. But that’s just my take on it and it’s all up for interpretation.
Now onto speed. I’ll just get this out of the way and say I don’t really buy the Immeasurable argument for Trolls either. Not only is it clear that Rhonda is just jumping through a portal, but it’s not even one that goes through time. As for Smurfs, admittedly I can understand the problems people would have with their Immeasurable arguments, especially the Smurfportation crystals. But honestly even without them, I think Smurfette would still be MUCH faster than Poppy.
The fastest Trolls has gotten is the soundwave Poppy made with her guitar, which gets 5,570 C. I’m honestly not sure how you could physically scale Poppy to it considering no one was shown actually reacting to or moving in tandem with it, but let’s be generous and say she does scale, Smurfette still has this beat with Smurfs being able to catch stars gettting 3.07 billion C (Over 500,000 times faster). And that’s not even mentioning Painter painting the entire comic book getting Infinite speed. So regardless of if we use Immeasurable Smurfs or not, Poppy’s getting blitzed severely.
Stats goes to SMURFETTE
Abilities
I’ll start off by listing what abilities the two share: Both can break the 4th wall, immerse themselves, toon force, hammerspaces that allow them to access their items easily, non-physical interaction and transmutation.
Now looking at what both have individually, Poppy has her signature hair manipulation that can stretch incredibly long distances, shapeshift into anything she wants, camouflage, light up in the dark and perform a spinning attack that can reflect projectiles. As for her other abilities, she can charge up and fire static electricity, fly, control plants, duplicate herself, fire an explosive projectile with the hairball-duken, teleport, turn night to day, immobilize foes with freeze tagging, call down electricity to telekinetically move objects, and most powerful of all, her Broadway force that can not only force others to dance, but also basically warp reality with her imagination and access some other cool abilities as well.
As for Smurfette, she can float across the air for a short period of time, use energy absorption to absorb energy from technology and magic, release a powerful sound wave with the smurfing scream, switch outfits anytime she wants, and seal opponents in some kind of magic bubble that sends them floating away.
So as you can see, Poppy has a clear advantage in this category with just how many unique abilities she has compared to Smurfette that give her plenty more options to turn things in her favor. Whether it’d be outranging Smurfette, outnumbering her, incapping her, getting a sneak attack on her, or controlling the battlefield.
It also helps that while both have methods of transmutation, only Poppy has been shown to resist it. And if Smurfette ends up using the Smurfy Touch, that would be pretty bad for her since she’ll end up transmuting her own items, putting most of her wincons out of commission.
However, I’d argue Smurfette isn’t COMPLETELY outclassed here, as while she has fewer abilities, some of the ones she does have still offer very potent wincons. Like how she can seal and BFR Poppy or more notably, her energy absorption which she can use to absorb the energy out of Poppy’s magic and tech-based items, attacks like her Hairball-duken or even drain her talent, effectively killing her.
Another thing I’d like to point out is that stuff like Poppy’s telekinesis requires her to do this whole He-Man bit to call down lightning, and from the looks of it it doesn’t seem that long ranged, so I don’t see this being something she’d be able to consistently spam. But even with that, Poppy’s overall abilities are still generally more versatile and give her more options to turn things in her favor.
Abilities goes to POPPY
Arsenal
For Poppy, she has her hug-time bracelet which use heal her and send a wave of energy to knock back foes, use glitter to blind opponents, can resist sound based mind control with gumdrops, switch bodies with others with the switcher-ruby, create a massive rainbow tornado with the rainbow maker, reflect attacks like lasers with her shield, force others to dance with star maker, potentially buff herself up with a potion, use her guitar to shoot blasts of lightning and create massive soundwaves, open wormholes to dimension hop or BFR with funk tech remote, use TNP to erase things from existence, use tickle grass to well…tickle opponents, and has power-ups that temporarily boost her speed, make her invulnerable and magnetically pull objects towards her.
As for Smurfette, she has methods of existence erasure with her magic sword and the kaplowey scroll, can blind opponents with pepper, put foes to sleep with red salt or the shazalakazoo, has potions that can give hearts to protect herself from damage, dash through the air at high speeds, put others to sleep, heal herself, increase attack power, and seemingly turn into a ghost, transport and send others through time with the magic crystal, gain extra lives through Smurf Dolls, use hypno glasses to mind control others, has her dragon wand which comes with a wide variety of abilities, an hourglass that freezes all surrounding foes, multiple invincibility power-ups, can one shot all surrounding enemies with red crystal, can make others fall for her with Bewitching Perfume, has rings and artifacts that give perks like extending potion durations, and outfits that come with different abilities or items like permanent invulnerability, flight, swords, size growth, etc.
I’d mention Hogatha’s Locket due to its wish granting abilities, but considering how Smurfette wasn’t even aware of what she was doing with it most of the time she had it, I won’t be bringing it up.
Both have certain items that could match or get the upper hand on the other, but Smurfette has more direct ways of shutting down Poppy’s. For example as stated earlier Smurfette’s absorption would allow her to shut down magic and tech based items.
This includes things like the hug time bracelet and the funk tech remote, leaving Poppy without her own healing or BFR options. She could also transmutate Poppy’s items with the dragon wand or use the kaplowey scroll to erase them.
You could make the argument that Poppy can use the scroll against Smurfette, but that would require knowledge of the scroll’s existence. Poppy did have her own method of disarming Smurfette through the magnet power-up, but it only lasted a few seconds and it’s not exactly something she could pull out consistently either.
Not only that but Smurfette’s arsenal is also generally more haxxy. She can use hypno-glasses to mind control Poppy into doing whatever she wants, has more reliable methods of erasure through her magic sword and the kaplowey scroll, can counter Poppy’s freeze tagging with the hourglass, had more methods in invulnerability, put Poppy to sleep with red salt and sleep potion, can use the dragon wand to age down Poppy, separate her body parts, control her body, duplicate her own items, summon objects out of thin air, etc
So to sum it up, Smurfette had better ways of disarming and even outright shutting down Poppy’s arsenal, and generally had more haxxed items, some of which could end the fight instantly.

Tertiary Factors
Experience:
Both are extremely skilled combatants, having gotten black belts in their respective martial arts and have been on their fair share of adventures. However, while Poppy technically is older in terms of raw age, one thing to keep in mind is that she spent at least 20 years of her life living in a cheerful, carefree environment with not much conflict. Smurfette on the other hand has been fighting against the likes of Gargamel not long after her creation. Not to mention she’s generally dealt with a wider variety of foes than Poppy on a more consistent basis.
Experience goes to SMURFETTE
Intelligence:
While Smurfette has shown that she can be clever and crafty when she needs to be, she hasn’t displayed as many impressive feats in this regard as Poppy. Most of the time she’s used her wits against Gargamel, who’s normally incompetent anyways and consistently lets Smurfs pull even the most basic tricks on him (Like thinking he had glasses). Meanwhile Poppy has gotten one over on genuinely cunning Trolls, having outsmarted Branch several times, tricked Queen Barb into thinking she was mind controlled or planning ahead to stop Chaz by sneaking Keith into a present, knowing full well jazz doesn’t work on children. Poppy also generally has more experience in a leadership role due to her status as Queen.
Intelligence goes to POPPY
Conclusion
Poppy’s clever smarts and wider array abilities certainly made her a tricky opponent to deal with, but Smurfette’s superior stats, stronger arsenal with more counters and defenses, and smurfy determination let her take the win more times than not. I guess you could say Poppy just had a bad hair day!
“You smurfed with the wrong girl!”

Stronger depending on how you interpret star lifting feats
Better arsenal
Had more ways of putting Poppy down for good
Better ways of disarming or shutting down Poppy’s items
Energy absorption screws Poppy in multiple ways
More overall experience
Less exploitable weaknesses
Cuter
Equal:
Had ways of one-shotting each other
Had methods of BFR
Roughly equal in AP if you don’t buy High Uni Smurfs
Disadvantages:
Less versatile abilities
Outranged significantly
Not as many impressive showings of strength or durability on her own
Not quite as clever as Poppy
Using the Smurfy Touch would backfire on her horribly
Had her own TV show at one point and uhhh…
The new Smurfs movie looks like dog water (Rihanna as Smurfette? Smurfs in the real world again? INFLUENCER SMURF? WHAT ARE Y’ALL DOING???)

Connections
Main heroines of franchises set in fantastical worlds who are part of a race of small, cheerful, magical creatures that reside in forest-based villages and love to sing, dance and party together (Pop Trolls/Smurfs).
Both have flower-themed motifs and their species as part of their names (POPpy/SMURFette).
Both are central, beloved figures within their villages known for their sweet-natured, upbeat, caring personalities, getting along with just about everyone they meet and always willing to help others in need.
Despite their kind-hearted attitudes, they’re not afraid to step up and take on whatever challenges threaten them or their people, with both having shown to be capable leaders in rough times and being surprisingly well versed in a certain martial art (Hair-Jitsu/Smurf-Fu).
Both discovered that there were other members of their species beyond the walls of their village (Troll tribes that represent different genres of music/Other female Smurfs) after which they along with some friends would embark on a quest to stop villains who seek to capture them for power (Queen Barb/Gargamel), and would end up bringing harmony between them.
Both of their species have been sought out for their magical essence to help enhance others (Bergens/Velvet and Veneer and Gargamel)
Some fun little meta connections:
Both their respective franchises have European roots (Trolls is a reboot of the Good Luck Troll dolls, which were created in Denmark/The Smurfs was created in Belgium).
Poppy’s Brazilian VA once voiced Smurfette in the 2011 Smurfs movie.
One of The Smurfs comics contains a promotion for the Trolls comics.
Trolls was one of the inspirations for the art style of The Smurfs: Dreams.
